24 hours of zzt archive

Welcome to the 24 hours of ZZT archive. You will be able to find all or most of the information on all 24 hours of ZZT contests held in the past, as well as all the entries. 24 hours of ZZT contests require the participants to create a ZZT game based on a certain topic in 24 hours. The entries are scored by a panel of judges and the winner gets to host the next contest (by tradition; there are exceptions here). They are held four times a year, once every season.

Date held: January 3rd, 2003
Hosts: Bigge, Nanobot
Topics: Travelling/Worship (rest: see text)
Judges: Bigge, Jotz, Mr. Alert, Robert Pragt, zzblue
# of entries: 14 (1, 3, 7: see text)
Original scoresheet: n/a

Bigge and Nanobot won the main contest of the last 24hoz and got to host this one. Bigge took care of the hosting and Nanobot designed the webpage. Again, side contests were used. The main topic was either travelling or worship (you had to choose). The topics of the side contests were: fruit, insanity and rebellion (art); insomnia (junk); RPG fight, talking engine and simulation (engine).

The 24hoz concept had already gone downhill considerably at this point, but Bigge never showed up anymore and no results were released.

Spring (Hercules)

1st: Oof - "Cypress Hill Eats the Flute"

2nd: Zepher - "Music City"

3rd: Dr. Dos - "Wavelength"

Judges: Hercules, Nadir, craNKGod, Funk

Hercules thought it was an incredible shame what had happened to the 24hoz in the past few seasons (especially the Bigge incident) and decided to step and host one. He hosted and won contests succesfully before, so he was hoping this would give the 24hoz a boost again. It was hosted in association with the main ZZT website, z2. Knightt also hosted a 24hoz this season, as Herc found out a bit later (see below).

Sadly, this contest only received 5 entries: an absolute new low in 24hoz history to this date. The reason was not entirely clear, but it might have been the topic, the fact that it was Easter or Knightt also hosting one. A shame, since it had been well-prepared. Needless to say, this was incredibly disappointing, especially considering the effort that was put into it.

Spring (Knightt)

1st: WiL, John D. Moore - "AdversiTurtle"

2nd: Athena - "Bitten"

3rd: zzblue - "Guitar Picks and Onion Dip"

Date held: April 26th, 2003
Host: Knightt
Topic: Adversity
Judges: Knightt, ???
# of entries: 17

In the spring of 2003, two 24hoz contests were held, a week after each other. The first one was held by Hercules (see above) and the other, this one, by Knightt. This one received more and better entries, compared to Hercules' contest a week earlier.

Summer

1st: ZZDevelin - "The Night"

2nd: ???

3rd: ???

download entries (126k)

Date held: July 26th, 2003
Host: Knightt
Topic: Night
Judges: Knightt, C_A, Chuck, Breakout
# of entries: 13
Original scoresheet: n/a

The summer 24hoz was hosted by Knightt, because WiL (winner of Knightt's spring 24hoz) did not wish to host it. Oof (winner of Hercules' spring 24hoz) did wish to host, but due to bad communication, he was left out.

Knightt received 13 entries, but most of them turned out to be junk entries. He was obviously annoyed with this and posted the following to his 24hoz website:

"most people made junk games or otherwise bad ones, except for raiden, ammerz, zzdevelin, and zephyr, who all made games that were less bad. in conclusion... the 24hozzt winner is ZZDevelin. congrats to him for winning... he now has the right to host the next contest if he wants to."

Ironically, ZZDevelin, who was disqualified from Hercules' spring 24hoz with an average of 1.75, got to win his first 24hoz contest here. It should say enough. Also, this contest had the same topic as the very first 24hoz contest ever (the one hosted by mono in 1998): night. It is unclear if Knightt did this on purpose or not.

Fall

3rd: ???

Date held: October 11th, 2003
Host: Flaming_O
Topic: Disaster
Judges: Flaming_O, Dr. Dos, Mooseka, Emerging Lurker
# of entries: 7
Original scoresheet: n/a

Seeing as the previouis contest failed completely, Flaming_O (who was on the z2 staff at that point) decided to host this one. 7 entries were received -- again, not a whole lot at all, but at least 2 more than the recent low of 5 entries. Mooseka and Dr. Dos finished their judging, but Flaming_O still hasn't finished at the moment of writing this. It is unsure whether or not Emerging Lurker abandoned his judging position or not.
