Hercules: Adlo is, IMO, the best sidescroller for MegaZeux out there. What do you think makes Adlo better than sidescrollers like Luke Drelick's Global Domination? Red Peterson: Wow.. I'm glad you think that :) I really didn't think Adlo was that good until I came across two outstanding reviews for it, but I think it may be the effort. I put a lot into it so far, which means more secrets, and reasons to backtrack through the levels. Also, it resets a level almost completely when Adlo completes it or, well, has to try again. This means that if he decides to go back through a level, there isn't any emptiness. Oh, by the way, Luke Drelick and I are company-mates, now :)
Hercules: Adlo kinda remembered me of some old NES platform game. It brought back fine memories to the good old time. Why do you think Adlo resembles a platform video game? Red Peterson: I don't know about you, but I'm used to playing the 3D games that technology has brought us to now, and I've almost forgotten completely about them. That alone could suffice as the answer, but it's also got about the same quality graphics (16-color, due to Megazeux) that the good old NES games used to have (was the NES 16 color or 256? I dunno). But a simple answer is that it IS a platform game. Hercules: What can we expect of the final version of Adlo? Red Peterson: Well, for one thing, a better story :) But I'm also working on putting a lot more secrets into the levels I've already completed and put in the demo. I really want to make some innovative ememies, not just ones that lunge at and follow Adlo. They'll have better AI. I also want to put in ten types of bombs (I'm up to six now! Woo hoo!), and have the player have to use specific kinds of bombs. I'm working on making throwing with the SPACEBAR like throwing eggs in that SNES game "SMW2: Yoshi's Island", but with distance instead of angle. There's going to be many more levels, and different types of gameplay, too. Also, right now, you can play Dandy Desert at night after you meet certain requirements, and if you collect every Ampersand... well, something. Find out. Hercules: Do you have any notion of when the game will be finished, or aren't you sure about that yet? Red Peterson: To this I have no answer. When I first started this thing, I thought it would be done in '99. That was probably the beginning of summer, and since then I've had five levels done. Don't expect it soon if I'm going to put the 20+ levels in like I planned :)
Hercules: Is there anything more you want to say to the readers about Adlo? Red Peterson: Yeah. Don't expect the game to be finished soon, but expect the demo on my site to be updated so you can see the progress with it as I do. You can all give me feedback like this nice guy Hercules did, too! Hercules: Well, that's it. I'll be seeing you, pal! Red Peterson: Hey, thanks a lot, but if you think of any more questions, just send them over! And I'm still waiting for my cameo (hopefully a boss) in ADBI.. :)
