Fantastic work Wervyn!

Now I wonder if its possible to make it so that we can view ALL games and see which games are the best out of the entire archive. Hard to achieve at the moment since i don't see a view all games just A, B , C , D...etc

If you guys do add the "ALL" link to view all, it be nice if you could limit the number of games per page to like 50 or so.

Thanks once again Wervyn, this is great!

There's a new "everything" link under MODS. You'll get engines and mods too, but there arent so many that its impossible to deal with.

Sweet!

Now we can determine what are the best rated games in the archives and which ones are the lowest rated games in the archive. Thanks so much for this, now i dont have to suffer through downloading and deleting "not so good" games.

To view the TOP RATED MegaZeux games very, click here!

Too bad Utilities and MegaZeux versions are included, but however this is still quite useful. Nice work guys!

EDIT:

Is it possible if you could change the link MODs to Music? Because im sure people will be uploading SM3's, OGGs, etc in the future.

It'd be nice if the rating system would also count the amount of reviews per game, or something. There are many games that have been reviewed only once and given 5 stars.

You mean like this?

Also fixed a bug that was miscounting the pagination, leaving the last several pages blank. This will make it more difficult to use review score as a search field in the future, but we'll figure something out.

Yes, I think so, but I'm making sure I have the implementation correct. Also you won't have the numbers sorted exactly the way you'd expect because five stars doesn't necessarily mean the average score is five, but that it's between 4.5 and 5.0

EDIT: Okay, try it again. Notice that on the first page you can see the five star reviews start at 4 and then count down to one, before starting over at 8 and counting down to 2. This is because from that 8 and below the average score is less than 5 but greater than or equal to 4.5.

This place confuses me. Is there any way to do a search for games by genre, rating, or title? Then if you heard about a specific game and wanted to play it you wouldn't go sifting through as many pages. Particuarly, a title search box on the front page would be nice.

Also, a link on the forums' navigation bar back to the main page would be nice, so you don't have to re-type the url EVERY SINGLE TIME you want to look at the games list again. I survived z2 for maybe a year without even noticing there were forums, here I can't find a way out of them! Also, is there a way to view a list of past featured games?

In closing, I'd like to learn dMZX the same way I'd like to learn MZX, but the dMZX website is as much more confusing than z2 as MZX is more confusing than ZZT, leaving me no way into the mass of assumed knowledge but the dMZX wiki, (which has hardly anything helpful on it for new users). Y'know why z2 is dying? New users don't feel welcome. That, and it's an old game. MZX isn't quite that old yet, so to me it seems the best way to keep it alive is to make the website a little intuitive.

EDIT: my bad, there's already a search box on the main page. A little less intuitive than I hoped, but it's there.

While there is a search box, there is nothing in the database that lets you search by genre, because apparently nobody's been dedicated enough to categorize every game on the archive. Probably not a very high priority either...

Okay, see the line of links just below the DigitalMZX logo? The one that has the Community Rules and Guidelines on it? Look just to the left of that, and you'll get a link back to the front page. Not really obvious, but I'm sure you'll get used to it.

That's weird. The last time I tried that it took me to the main page of the forums. It must have been fixed since then. Y'know what'd be convenient? If when you downloaded a game while logged in, it added it to a list of games you've downloaded on your control panel somewhere. Then it'd be easy to look through a list and write reviews for games you liked. The way it's set up now, you'd have to remember to go back to a game you've already played (probably after you finished it) and look for the link. I might add screenshots of games I've played, I'm sure someone would like that.

Hell no. You'd be better off actually making a MZX game instead of classifying them by genre.

Edit: Woah, insert acronym option?

Move the Archives and Download Megazeux settings above the Site Navigation on the sidebar. People are evidently still having problems finding where to download MZX itself...

I would like a more advanced search option (instead of just Name and Author, possibly also have Date, Tags, Filesize, Reviews, Rating, Screenshot, and Version) (Reviews would count the number of Reviews, Version would check what version of MegaZeux is required (counting both official versions and forked versions), Screenshot tells it whether or not it has a screenshot).

Also some advanced syntax search, where you can type in for example
Name~"z*"&(Screenshot>0|Date<2008/1/1)&Tags-"rpg"
(where ~ is match with wildcards, = is match exact, & is and, | is or, ! is snot, < is less than, > is greather than, + is includes, - is does not include)

Also should have a date column in the list of files, and a way to change the default sort order per user (for example, I would like to be able to change the setting for default sort order to ascending by name instead of descending by rating).

I really don't think our game archive is large enough to necessitate writing a full search query string parser that (I think) only you would use...

In that case, at least adding Date and Version columns, and having a Tags search, would be good. And also a setting in the user setting for default sort order, if you can do that.

Date sounds reasonable - Version, on the other hand, does not, because not everybody sticks version numbers on their games (unless you're referring to MZX version, in which case maybe that is reasonable as well).

A search by tags would be great. I actually thought this was why tags were added. When you click on a tag that's already in a game description page, it should open a new page with all other games containing the same tag.

I do mean MZX version. (You could also have "N/A" in this field in case the file is Zeux 1 or is a music file only or something else where MZX version is not applicable)

I would think so. At first when they added the tags I thought that eventually they would fix it to search tags also, but they didn't fix that yet.

This may have been talked about before, but in the section of downloads under Browse where it says:

MegaZeux and Forks
Competitions
Engines and Utilities
Music Packs
Everything

There should be the obvious "Games". Be nice to have so we don't have to click everything and cycle through "everything" or by going letter by letter to find a game of interest.

A way to see the popularity of a game would be nice. Not just the star rating. But to see what games are actually being actively downloaded. Perhaps "last downloaded game" or even a download counter?

There's a field in the database for this, but unsurprisingly, MZXGiant wasn't doing anything with it. It wouldn't be difficult to add.
