Alright, I'm just going to come out and say it. That little unusable, empty, always c0? space on either end of any given "* Text" command is annoying and I want it to go away.
In my specific situation, I'm using one-line messages as kind of a "random message display" on top of a static overlay. The static overlay is dark red. I've made the background of the text dark red as well. But, of course, the overall feeling is kind of tossed out the window when you have all this text with a red background book-ended on either side by a big, black space.
I thought I could be clever and just make my messages 80 characters wide so the spaces would vanish, but no. * Text caps at 76 characters… and still has the spaces on either end. I have not found any way around this, but I'm open to suggestion. Well, so long as it doesn't involve "just writing stuff to the overlay layer". That would require reprogramming what I have to compensate and… I don't want that.
(Though, I'm probably going to end up doing that anyway, thanks to 2.51's "overlay c0?" bug…)
Anyway, that's my dilemma. Hopefully, I'm not the only one who would find this useful.
