Post silly feature requests in this thread so I can ignore them. Do this instead of posting them on the bug reports thread, for cripes sake.

MZX games as .Exe's? hell no. Not to mention, if you just use your head, you can set up a MIME type in windows to make double-clicking an MZX game automajiCkally run it. How? find out here.

PROTIP FOR CREATING MZX DOUBLE-CLICK ACTION IN WINDOWS:

(Windows XP)

Start -> Control Panel -> Folder Options -> File Types

Find "MZX" in the list, after it finishes loading, click "Change", then "Browse", navigate to where you keep mzx280g.exe. Select that, click "Open" then "Ok". Now go to "Advanced", select the "open" action in the list, click "Edit". Now add this where it says "Application used to perform action:"
"C:\mzx\mzx280g.exe" startup_file=%1

Of course, replace c:\mzx with wherever you keep mzx. Make sure that "Use DDE" is checked, press "OK", then "Ok" again. Now you can double-click on mzx files to your heart's content.

If you add the file type .MZX in Win98, and set it up like you did in XP ("C:\mzx\mzx280g.exe" startup_file=%1), does it still work? Just wondering, cuz my computer is as old as dirt.

EDIT: It is a heck of a lot easier to set up ZZT to load a world by clicking the icon =P

EDIT: I fiddled around and got it to work, but it only works if it is in the same directory (no subdirs). Sigh.

Yes, the exact same thing should work on Win98, I just don't know if you get to it in the same manner.

Well, the DDE is quite different, because instead of just checking DDE, you also have to manually configure it. =(

Indeed. Now, for a serious feature request.

Actually... I got nothing. Exo has done everything I wanted. I'm content.

EDIT: I guess I echo Revvy's sentiments about the help system, not that I use it much anymore.

the problem with a playerbombed label is that all explosions are the same, and there isn't enough data free in the explosion param to add a player flag. You'd need to add a new explosion type, which would possibly make old games incompatible.

Maybe she means a label that's hit when the player gets bombed.

But the robot command doesn't know the difference either does it? The :bombed command just means hit-by-an-explosion doesn't it? It doesn't matter where it comes from. I may be wrong though.

Will always work unless the player is hurt by something other than an explosion, while standing on the very edge of an explosion. (a pretty rare thing to happen)

uh, I think you misunderstood the request- it's for a label if the robot is hit by an explosion caused by a bomb dropped by the player, kinda like playershot

These are the worst feature requests ever. I feel bad just posting that as a one line comment, so.. I'll put up a request or two I guess. When MZX immediatly starts and brings up a dialog box from which you can load worlds, an edit button would be nice, but not practical considering your most likely using the same dialog box for loading everywhere. Some way to scroll over vast distances of a board far larger than previously possible to account for increased board size. Being able to edit any line on the screen without scrolling to that line in the MZX code editor (More like a traditional text editor I guess). A find option in the MZX code editor.. The ability to click and hold to highlight sections of the code in the editor, again more like a traditional text editor. And a grid of variable size inside the board editor.

Not that Exophase needs more feature requests. He's working hard enough as it is on MZX :\ Sorry Exo.

Here's one, I know I'd find it useful.

You know when you select a built-in in the editor and you get to change around all the params? (eg. change a monster's health or change a spike's damage?). It would be nice if you could have that option with robots. So say I make a cute birdie that flys around the screen and it had counters like "fly_speed", "health" and "behaviour" it would be nice if I could set those from the editor just by pressing a key when the cursor is over a robot. A window like this would prolly pop up...

----cute birdie----

fly_speed [1 ]
health [25 ]
behavior [2 ]

--------------------

What do you think?

The save/load dialog boxes can be extended (see: charset stuff, import/export in robot editor) but I don't think that'd be that useful, plus I want to keep the number of buttons down so you can scroll them quickly.

Use ctrl + num to save a location and alt + num to go back to it.

That changes the whole "feel" of the robot editor a bit too much without really doing much for functionality...

Already there like Revvy said.

Elig said:

That's possible (and I've been considering it, especially now that I properly have mouse drag support in MZX) but it would still be line-by-line. Char-by-char copy + paste has complications.

You already do! Every time MZX crashes it's because you kicked it from the inside.

There's no way that's happening in MZX 2.x, robots vastly lack the metadata necessary to make this possible (and it's also impossible to determine what global counters are being meant to be used only as local counters). Look for window based construction in 3.x (if it ever happens). For now you should try using macros instead, ie

#construct_birdie(1, 25, 2)

And you can even get a GUI window for it, but you're limited to only having 5 of these active. You can make a config file just for your game that has these macros.

Okay, it was worth a try though. I know how to do the macro thing but I just suggested this because it would have been more accessible and easier to manage. If you scrapped built-ins in MZX3 then a thing like this would be really helpful, especially if you're thinking about replacing them with an import robot option instead. I'm just thinking about the new guys that's all. :p

I don't think I have any more requests for MZX2.x now, I guess I'll just have to wait until 3 comes out.
