Right. I don't really see much point in setting up a website at this point, so lets just get this thing off the ground. Signups in this thread, you have 14 days to sign up, get cracking people.

Please say "Finalized" in this wonderful color like so: Finalized when your post actually results in the creation of a final team. I will then PM you your randomly generated team number, which I'm only using for the reason Lachesis pointed out below.

<@Tixus> Anyway, I set the year to 1988 for some reason.
<@Tixus> And set the microwave to run for a minute and 28 seconds.
<@Tixus> But it failed to send me back in time, and I was disappointed.
<Insidious> Tixus accidentally microwaved the 80s
<Insidious> that is my takeaway from this

I think the private team numbers thing was so that people didn't submit under other peoples' team name.

I'm in, but I need to talk with Lancer-X and CJA before I join up

Yeah, that's what I thought was happening, but Lancer disappeared from IRC so I cannot confirm this

Also, I think he came up with the team name

<Nadir> actually, i'm being unfair

The team numbers were for anonymity, if you make them public you obviously lose that. The reason the submissions were anonymous was to remove a possible source of bias in the judging. Ultimately for a lot of games it was really obvious who made them, but not all games and not to all judges. So if anything this made things less fair, or at least unfair in a different way.

At some point we decided the judges could be trusted to be pretty impartial and did away with anonymity. But we kept the numbers to give people the option to remain at least sort of anonymous if they want (dunno if there's anything about judges not knowing the correlation). At least I think that's why. Personally I think the numbers are kinda a pain in the ass.

Well, I meant, I thought the private team numbers stuck around after anonymity was killed

which was a quick way to cause DoZ drama, as Asiekierka demonstrated at least once. *glares at Asie*

If there's another explanation though, I'd gladly hear it. I'm sure there are other reasons that I don't remember (another one I thought of is that it gives a standardized naming convention to the zip files).

It also allows for optional anonymity, which I at least felt was worth maintaining for a while (but it does cause some issues so I'm fine with it being dropped here).

It's not like something like that wouldn't be caught, even if it creates a momentary stir. I'm sure if you take away asiekierka's ability to do something retarded he'll always find something else retarded to do.

I feel like they should at least drop the randomized numbers and just count positive integers. It's annoying for judges to have to go back and forth looking at the number, this'd make them easier to remember. Or maybe get the teams to pick a short single word codename or something.

our code name is "bacon"

Hmm, that is a pretty good point. Maybe this should be the last DoZ with team numbers, then?

edit: I admit, the team numbers are pretty annoying when I'm working on a screenshot collection for a DoZ

Won't have the PTO for this one or even the ability to use it by the DoZ date. Maybe by summer but with the amount I get I could be looking at that vs. MZXCon. But if I discover I don't have the PTO for MZXCon I'll definitely look into taking it for the DoZ. Sorry y'all. If you'd like, Insid, I could be able to judge, just don't expect quick results as my weekends will be Thursday-Friday at that time.
