Scoresheet: Theme-light Topic: Violence

Theme: 50% -> 10/20

A few references to violence, but nothing you do is directly affected by the theme. The game doesn't look, sound or feel violent.

Gameplay: 20% -> 24/120

It was kind of fun hearding dragons in a way that you could pass through the wall of dragons in the forest.

Graphics: 33% -> 30/90

Inconsistant. The title screen's not centered, and there's an annoying blinking forest at some point in the game. However, there's a custom font and some palette fades. No effort has been done to hide programming robots.

Technique: 40% -> 32/80

Functionnal. Very little actual programming in the game.

Story: 0% -> 0/50

There's no coherent story.

Sound: 0% -> 0/40

Better turn down the volume, because this game will hurt your ears.

Total: 96/400

Scoresheet: Theme-heavy Topic: Violence

Theme: 100% -> 100/100

They really went the extra mile there, with the screen colors fading to red when you're angry, an anger management system and blood everywhere.

Gameplay: 40% -> 36/90

Your anger quickly fades away, but is essential for getting through a lot of doors in the level. Taking your time means you run out of anger energy, while rushing through gets you killed. This makes the game ridiculously hard. There's a reloading system, but it doesn't reload automatically when you run out of ammo in your clip, making it more of an annoyance than anything else. Bullets that your enemies leave on the ground when they die will get in the way and block shots, even though there's already plenty of ammo everywhere on tables.

Graphics: 80% -> 56/70

Very nice graphics, unfortunately most of it is ruined by turning everything red while angry (And you should be angry all the time, because as soon as your anger runs out you can't open doors anymore and you get stuck).

Technique: 80% -> 48/60

Nice title screen animation, functionnal dialogue pop-up boxes, although the combat mechanics are awkward.

Story: 75% -> 37/50

The story is nice and doesn't get in the way too much, but having little story pieces spread out on pieces of paper on tables and on the floor is a sad way to deliver it. There's a setting, but there's no progression; nothing happens when you go through the level and win. There is no significant character.

Sound: 90% -> 27/30

Goes along with the game pretty well.

Scoresheet: Theme-light Topic: Espionage

Theme: 75% -> 15/20

You're a spy for SpyCo., with a mission objective and all.

Gameplay: 15% -> 18/120

There's nothing to do, really. A few points for the good flow of the introduction.

Graphics: 25% -> 22/90

No title screen, no custom font, large black backgrounds.

Technique: 10% -> 8/80

A few points for the nice introduction.

Story: 60% -> 30/50

It's alright. A bit funny, too.

Sound: 15% -> 6/40

Is there any? Nope, there isn't any.

Total: 99/400

Team 98485

Scoresheet: Theme-light Topic: Violence

Theme: 75% -> 15/20

The story is strongly related to violence, but the game itself feels distand from the story, and doesn't really communicate violence.

Gameplay: 90% -> 108/120

Gets a little repetitive over time, but the battle engine is decent and works great. Built-in player regeneration keeps you in combat and you don't have to abuse saving/restoring. Big enemy bullets that split into more bullets when they hit something can 1-shot kill you, which is annoying but not game breaking. All the enemies feel just about the same, and the weapon variety and upgrades don't really affect gameplay that much since they all work the same way.

Graphics: 100% -> 90/90

Let's see... A lot of variety in the backgrounds and enemies, they're animated, lots of palette swaps, and lots of large objects. I have to mention that some of the enemies look silly when you look closely, and the boss graphics feel out of place.

Technique: 90% -> 72/80

Solid battle engine, visual effects, background layers. Could use more enemy and boss variety.

Story: 60% -> 30/50

There's a nice and long story in the game... which has nothing to do with the game itself. Who are those monsters and why are you killing them? Not to mention how silly the bosses are. Giga puddi? Really?

Sound: 60% -> 24/40

Some songs in the game feel completely out of place. At least there's enough variety and good sound effects.

Team -1

Scoresheet: Theme-heavy Topic: Violence

Theme: 60% -> 60/100

Alright, so you need blood... The reason is unexplained. Still, it's present enough, both in the story and in the game itself.

Gameplay: 10% -> 9/90

There's some engines for various weapons. Unfortunately, right from the start you have to fight enemies that just throw so many rockets at you that there's no obvious way to get anything done.

Graphics: 50% -> 35/70

Plenty of custom characters used everywhere and plenty of detail everywhere, but the game suffers from contrast problems, where it's hard to tell what is solid/active and what is floor, because everything has so much contrast. Why is the sky grey in the intro sequence?

Technique: 50% -> 30/60

Working cutscenes, different weapons. Unfortunately, combat is impossible due to enemy rocket spam.

Story: 40% -> 20/50

Alright, so you need blood, because of something related to blood-meter enterprizes. So, you get on an airplane, crash somewhere close, walk up to there fighting hordes of rocket spamming guards, and get shot in the face. Nice.

Sound: 40% -> 12/30

Some sounds from Duke Nukem 3D. No music.

Team 3.1415

Scoresheet: Theme-heavy Topic: Violence

Theme: 40% -> 40/100

Basic usage of the theme: you're in hell, shoot stuff. I found it funny how you started with 666 health.

Gameplay: 20% -> 18/90

Gets old really fast. Just shoot stuff around you.

Graphics: 20% -> 14/70

There's not much to look at. Lava at the edges, and a black background otherwise.

Technique: 10% -> 6/60

Infinite ammo, and spawning stuff at random positions.

Story: 10% -> 5/50

You're in hell, shoot stuff.

Sound: 50% -> 15/30

Doom sound and music. Nothing special.
