SimStapler

SimStapler was originally a free Macintosh software toy, distributed by Freeverse Software in the mid-90's. It was later ported to the PC and Mac OS X. The original program consisted of two photographs of a red Swingline stapler and a "stunt finger" that would press the stapler as the user clicked the mouse. The program kept score on screen, and rewarded the player every ten points with one of the developer's voices saying "Splendid!" Perhaps the most interesting part of the program was the elaborate help file, which described the usage of the program in such detail that, at some point, the writer digresses into a long tirade about how our children are not using their imaginations anymore.

In 2009, WildWeasel spent 30 minutes recreating SimStapler for MegaZeux. The resulting "game" was not especially well received, though NiMa retooled, redrew, and added new gameplay elements to the game and released SimStapler HD the following day. The additions to SimStapler were a music player (preloaded with two songs from Caverns), and the NAO!/NOO! box, which would randomly appear during gameplay and modify the player's score multiplier depending on which box was on screen.

It is worth noting that both MegaZeux SimStaplers utilize the same sound effects (and introduction) as the Freeverse original. WildWeasel had attempted to copy the help text, word for word, but accidentally deleted the robot and opted not to try it again.
