The PC speaker is a primitive sound system which was prevalent in old PCs. The PC speaker can only play one note at a time; while later PC games such as Monopoly created complex sound effects from the PC speaker, MegaZeux only allows it to make simple beeps and tones.
MegaZeux allowed playing sound effects from the PC speaker in tandem with sound effects from a sound card. The PC speaker sound effects are treated differently from the digitized sound effects; they can be toggled independent of the other sound effects.
Ever since MegaZeux 2.80, PC speaker sound effects are emulated; there is no need to have an actual PC speaker to hear them.
