[16:54:01] <@Tixus> I am?? [16:54:08] Well, maybe not. [16:54:20] <@Tixus> I came back like one minute before you joined. [16:54:28] Convenient. [16:54:29] <@Tixus> So that leaves... [16:54:37] seven's not online anywhere I can find. [16:54:51] Bramble as well. Wait, there he is. [16:55:50] sotf discussion, huh [16:55:56] brambs [~Brambleki@pcp01625525pcs.univde01.de.comcast.net] has joined #batcafe [16:55:56] That's the plan. [16:56:08] bramble here. [16:56:54] Alrighty. Now, I didn't have a real plan for this, I just figured we'd start at the beginning and work our way through until someone has to leave. [16:57:13] uh-oh [16:57:18] that _could_ be soon [16:57:29] Well, until Es has to leave. [16:57:43] Oh good [16:58:18] I was hoping Es would start things off. Es, can you explain what happened 21 years before the story began? [16:58:39] <@Es> I was born in Saint Joe Hospital in Ft. Wayne, Indiana. [16:58:49] Guffaw. [16:58:52] <@Es> =D [16:58:53] Pishaw! [16:58:54] <@Es> Okay. [16:59:14] Es harrum [17:00:24] <@Es> Well, don't we know? =| [17:00:28] Uh [17:00:32] perhaps [17:00:34] not [17:00:37] Not in great detail. [17:00:50] Common, just do it [17:00:58] <@Es> This is the stupidest part of the story, but yeah, here goes. Let's start from a bit earlier. [17:01:07] stupid is good [17:01:11] 21 years ago, a meteor containing the Lorilith crashed into the Eastern Ice Cap...or was it the Western one... [17:01:19] <@Es> Even further, I think. [17:01:26] Es [~hooptybot@64.151.173.202] is now known as iEs [17:01:30] Alright, further, so it has to be you. [17:01:37] iEs [~hooptybot@64.151.173.202] is now known as Es [17:03:04] <@Es> Eden (or Betternamehere) was God's First World. [17:04:12] <@Es> Where Lorius (the God figure) first created men, and it was here that Lithos, the enemy of God and man, first appeared, swearing his eternal opposition. [17:05:22] <@Es> Lithos, who swore to walk each earth and ruin it. [17:06:03] <@Es> I don't know if he's a fallen man, or fallen deity, or naturally occuring evil deity, or any of that stuff, we can imagine that up later. [17:06:38] I do want to suss out the details of the religion, and how much of an allegory it is, at some point. [17:06:39] <@Es> But one possible sequence of events to explain things would be that if Lithos was given rise by man, then by man he must be ultimately destroyed, and it is Lorius that gives his men the power to do this. [17:07:50] <@Es> Lorius left for man's use some of his strength on each world, for them to build, light fires, shape and till the earth, harvest wood and stone, etc. [17:08:13] <@Es> It's a god-given tool that people dubbed Lorium. [17:08:37] <@Es> And it occurs naturally in the wild, in little pockets of static, crystallized energy. [17:09:08] <@Es> When it's used, reacting to human touch and thought, it accomplishes its purpose and dissipates naturally back into the ecosystem. [17:09:13] Very weird properties. Not totally sure but I think the way I ended up treating it is that it's essentially free energy, the only constraint is how much you can pull out at a time. [17:09:28] <@Es> Yeah, all the details haven't been hashed out yet. [17:09:51] <@Es> It could be stuck in little infinite loops or stored in bonds of substances that wouldn't naturally bond together. [17:10:01] <@Es> And released by a sort of fission. [17:10:08] like to make EXPLODING LORIUM [17:10:16] <@Es> aaaanyhow [17:10:37] hey I was serious.. [17:10:41] <@Es> Yeah =) [17:10:48] Oh, totally, you can make bombs out of it. [17:11:12] <@Es> Lorius creates a huge Lorium, the horribly-named Lorilith, and tells men that they'll find it when the time comes to destroy Lithos - it's like bait, he'll be drawn to it like a bug lamp. [17:11:14] Okay cool, so no electric, or yes electric? [17:11:19] <@Es> Gettin' there. [17:11:51] <@Es> And the time came when it was given to Eden, and they knew it for what it was. [17:12:11] <@Es> Like cowards, though, they used their power to send it away. [17:12:23] Huh. [17:12:27] <@Es> Because they were afraid of being the ones to attack Lithos. [17:12:50] <@Es> And this pattern continues. [17:12:52] who were the people on Eden [17:12:58] just--everyone decided that? [17:13:07] <@Es> Leaders. [17:13:13] oh alright [17:13:13] <@Es> Some people were opposed to it. [17:13:37] Okay, very real [17:13:51] <@Es> And the pattern continued; it was given to another world - when it appeared there, they turned it away, to the next world, which turned it away. [17:14:33] Until it arrived in Demetra. [17:14:48] <@Tixus> With Fern. [17:14:53] <@Es> Yes, and this is what happened "21 years ago" in our story. [17:15:12] <@Tixus> Um, so. Question. [17:15:17] <@Es> It kind of clumsily crashes into an ice cap in the western hemisphere (Demetra's magnetic pole is horizontal.) [17:15:25] <@Tixus> What IS the Lorilith? [17:15:30] <@Es> oh lord it's an rpg meteor [17:15:34] <@Tixus> Yeah. [17:15:37] <@Es> Lorius creates a huge Lorium, the horribly-named Lorilith, and tells men that they'll find it when the time comes to destroy Lithos - it's like bait, he'll be drawn to it like a bug lamp. [17:15:51] <@Tixus> That sounds different from what you told me about it long ago. [17:15:52] Sephiroth summoned it. [17:16:09] <@Es> Yeah, with the Black Lorium Materia. [17:16:30] I wonder, if the "sending away" process somehow involves the entanglement of a human soul... [17:16:32] <@Tixus> Is it just bait, or does it actually have some kind of purpose that Lithos could use? [17:16:48] <@Es> Well, it's bait because it can definitely be used. [17:16:54] <@Es> It's an immense Lorium. [17:17:05] <@Es> Of some type or another. [17:17:06] like, this big ( ) [17:17:14] <@Es> Yeah, 'bout three centimeters all around. [17:17:16] Bigger than a breadbox. [17:17:30] <@Es> If by centimeters you mean HUNDREDS OF MILES [17:17:32] <@Es> Or, uh. [17:17:38] heh [17:17:38] <@Es> We haven't really described the size of it. [17:17:46] <@Tixus> So what's Lithos want to do with it? [17:17:46] It's big. Leave it at that. [17:17:46] <@Es> But it's large, probably hundreds of feet wide. [17:17:49] <@Tixus> Destroy it? [17:17:50] <@Tixus> Use it? [17:17:58] Corrupt it? [17:18:05] <@Tixus> Convert it! [17:18:06] <@Es> Use it, probably. Corrupt it, sure. Do bad things with it. [17:18:07] (evilevilevil) [17:18:16] probably all of the above, right? [17:18:26] <@Es> brambs wins with (evilevilevil). [17:18:27] Let's get into LC. Someone discovered the Lorilith. Probably someone who became quite famous. [17:18:28] hundreds of feet, enough to go around [17:18:39] <@Es> Demo, sort of. [17:18:57] <@Es> Nobody's discovered the Lorilith on Demetra, because it's quite inhospitable where it is. [17:19:12] <@Es> And that region is rarely explored, and never explored in depth. [17:19:16] <@Es> But yeah. [17:19:22] oh, very interesting :D [17:19:28] ice adventures [17:19:51] Maybe. I think I like it better if it was discovered early on by one lone explorer who triggered it somehow. [17:19:55] <@Es> The year that it appeared in the west, a man in the south-western nation of Garantine discovered a new use for Lorium. [17:20:02] And brought back with him the idea for LC. [17:20:03] <@Es> Well, Demetra's got Lorium. [17:20:08] <@Es> Yeah, could be something like that. [17:20:11] <@Es> Anyways. [17:20:28] <@Es> He invents a process under which Lorium undergoes conversion into matter. [17:20:33] <@Tixus> I always thought the idea was... [17:20:46] <@Tixus> Because the Lorilith attracted Lithos, that was what led to the discovery of LC. [17:20:50] <@Tixus> Is that right? [17:21:06] <@Es> The matter's got tremendous energetic properties, but cools off pretty quickly into a black, carbony, sorta-inert substance that's not very good for things. [17:21:24] hold up. LC would be what again...? [17:21:30] <@Es> Tix, that's a theory. Lithos and his evil followers gathering around it, causing some sort of demonic corruption. [17:21:32] Converted Lorium. [17:21:34] <@Es> Tixus is ahead of me. [17:21:36] RIGHTO! [17:21:38] <@Es> LC is "Lorium Conversion" [17:21:46] <@Es> The name for this process. [17:22:03] <@Es> And upon it, in very short time, Garantine built a nation on it. [17:22:18] <@Es> Using this tremendous, cheap energy from a source found in nature. [17:22:22] <@Es> Anyways, this Mako, errrr, Lorium... [17:22:43] It's consumable, that's one of the major things about it. [17:23:01] <@Es> Yeah - the thing is, Lorium returns to the system when used normally. [17:23:15] <@Es> LC usurps it by turning it into this black, pollutative stuff. [17:23:34] <@Es> This caused something of a stir in Terinthia, another major nation of Demetra. [17:24:03] <@Es> And a big political division began to brew while Garantine ditched the natural use of Lorium for LC-powered systems. [17:24:25] <@Es> As a result, Garantine becomes very, very advanced technologically, while Terinthia sticks to the old way of things. [17:24:41] <@Es> Now, a third continent, Rikst, in the east, is very high in Lorium. [17:24:53] I wonder what the energy output should be... [17:24:57] <@Es> One year, Garantine invades it and occupies it to strip-mine it. [17:25:09] <@Es> And this prompts Terinthia to go to war. [17:25:28] What year is this? That's important, how long has the war been happening? [17:25:49] <@Es> That's something I never specified. [17:25:59] <@Es> We'll say a good ten or fifteen years, probably. [17:26:13] <@Es> Because over this time, Garantine develops into a very militaristic nation. War games become a sort of high school football. [17:26:25] That's probably reasonable. [17:26:34] brambs [~Brambleki@pcp01625525pcs.univde01.de.comcast.net] is now known as bramblecheerson [17:26:48] <@Es> All state-sponsored education is merged with the military, and several public schools feed into it. [17:27:02] So, I would think they rarely attack each others' homeland, the front is mostly in Rikst... [17:27:05] <@Es> So a good portion of the graduating youth go into the military education system. [17:27:16] <@Es> Right, Rikst is the major front. [17:27:34] <@Es> There are some incidents at sea and a few home-soil operations on both sides, though. [17:27:34] The navy is mostly a defensive one, "in case". [17:27:54] <@Es> But the home-soil stuff tends to be very unsuccessful, so basically, they tear up Rikst. [17:28:08] <@Es> As a result, Rikst is pretty impoverished and culturally destroyed. [17:28:31] <@Es> A lot of Rikstian guys leave home to join the occupying army, or the Terinthian offensive. [17:28:39] Yeah. How do Rikstian's feel about this? Obviously some, like Priste, just decided to go with the flow and join up with Garantine. [17:29:02] <@Es> Some guys don't see a lot of future in Rikst, and they join Garantine, yeah, to make something of themselves. [17:29:14] <@Es> Some guys are more fiercely nationalist, and join the Terinthians. [17:29:35] <@Es> Which, of course, just causes more strife at home. [17:33:26] <@Es> Yeah, heh, where were we. [17:33:26] Quasar [~Anonymous@24-236-222-137.dhcp.aldl.mi.charter.com] has quit IRC: Read error: Connection reset by peer [17:33:31] <@Es> I guess this brings us to Rail Xenth. [17:33:31] So, Fern. Let's get to her, because her birth is directly related to the arrival of the Lorilith. [17:33:36] <@Es> Or Fern, sure. [17:35:12] That's why I was bringing up the idea that the "sending away" of the Lorilith involves the entanglement of a soul. [17:36:03] <@Es> Right, the way we have it at the moment is that on the 6th world, they had a bit of trouble returning the Lorilith to sender, and a pregnant mother got caught in the magical postal vortex. [17:36:08] Which, combined over six other worlds gives us six other people. [17:37:18] <@Es> Both of these ideas could be combined, really. [17:37:33] <@Es> To fit in with Werv's addition of the Staera gang. [17:37:42] Well, I've always been pushing the interrelatedness of Staera and her gang of mages, yeah. [17:38:38] <@Es> At any rate, this human soul gets randomly deposited on the world and born in Demetra. [17:38:41] Somehow, when the Lorilith arrived and was activated, all of these souls rushed out and got attached to babies that had just been conceived. [17:38:58] <@Es> Yes, something is a bit incredulous here still =( [17:39:11] <@Es> We're identifying such action items as we go, though. [17:40:42] <@Es> So a girl named Valerie Fern Verille is born in Terinthia. [17:41:01] <@Es> Shortly after, a guy named Rail Xenth is born in Garantine. [17:41:26] Or shortly before. Does the order matter? [17:41:32] <@Es> More or less a modern guy, who goes through the system into Garantine Central Academy. [17:41:34] <@Es> Nah, either way. [17:42:08] <@Es> He makes some friends with kids from other schools, a girl named Rita Atami and one or two others. [17:42:43] <@Es> Er, Central was the name of Rita's school, wasn't it. [17:42:50] <@Es> What the crap did we call the major military academy? [17:42:55] City. [17:42:59] <@Es> City Academy, right. [17:44:12] There was a big brouhaha at his senior games which we still haven't totally figured out. [17:44:39] <@Tixus> I've shared my thoughts on that before. [17:45:21] <@Es> Yeah, this was a consequence of the capriciousness of story game. [17:45:37] <@Es> I think seven came up with it. [17:45:47] <@Tixus> So, what'll it be? [17:45:49] Right. There was also some sort of divide between Rail and his family. [17:45:52] <@Tixus> Hallucination? [17:46:00] <@Es> Yeah, Tixus came up with that part, yes? [17:46:01] <@Tixus> ...sorry 'bout that. [17:46:07] <@Es> IT WAS ALL A DREAM! [17:46:19] <@Tixus> It wasn't a divide. [17:46:35] <@Es> I think I envisioned Rail getting along fine with his family, but yeah, a division works too. [17:46:35] At this point I'm thinking scrap that entirely and start over from the beginning. [17:46:49] <@Tixus> Both of 'em? [17:46:51] And I'm all for some sort of division, conflict is good. [17:46:53] <@Es> Hm, there's plenty I'd like to keep though, if we scrap anything. [17:46:58] <@Tixus> It was more like "I'm really glad to be on my own" [17:48:29] Maybe it's cliche, but I like it. "A message on the monitor, Rail recognized the number. Hesitated a moment, then deleted it." [17:48:48] <@Tixus> ?? [17:48:57] Maybe not. [17:49:00] <@Tixus> ?? [17:49:06] <@Es> I like to emphasize that he's just a regular dude. [17:49:09] <@Es> Tixus, his family. [17:49:39] <@Tixus> Where was that? [17:49:44] <@Tixus> I don't remember that part. [17:49:46] Yeah, that particular flavoring may not work so well. [17:49:51] <@Es> I think he just made it up. [17:49:53] And it wasn't anywhere, it was an example. [17:49:55] <@Tixus> Ah. [17:50:09] <@Tixus> It wasn't a divide. :( [17:50:15] <@Tixus> His parents called him, he just never called them. [17:50:20] <@Tixus> I think. [17:50:37] Well, anyway. [17:51:08] I guess we have to talk about Staera next. [17:51:24] And her web of Terinthian intrigue. [17:51:24] <@Tixus> Yep. [17:51:27] <@Tixus> Start talkin'. [17:51:35] <@Es> This is Wervyn's department. [17:51:52] So, Staera and Astera were born in a suburb of Terinth, I think. [17:52:45] Power not quite understood, but recognized by the powers in authority there, so at 14 they were inducted as full journeymen into the Guild of Mages. [17:53:40] The Magister there, he definitely knows more than he's letting on, so he sends them out to find two more "special" children and bring them back. I don't know how he knew where they were, yet. [17:54:17] And they all grow in power and ability for the next four and a half years or so. [17:55:16] Then Luc-Derren, liason to the council, openly betrays the country and absconds with a band of defectors. [17:56:22] Before doing this, he solicits Staera to join him; she refuses of course, and is going to arrest him, but he's anticipated the possibility and incapacitates her somehow. [17:57:17] Anyway, he disappears, and they spend the next two years trying to figure out where he's gone, finally locating him in Garantine City. [17:57:44] He's not there all the time, but that's where he was spotted (again, somehow), so they set up an infiltration there. [17:58:46] Gathering sympathizers unhappy with the current government, they start to worm their way into the system. Staera, Astera, and Farim set up camp in Garantine, one of the others goes to a location in Rikst that they've also flagged as a hotspot. [17:59:40] So, this takes about six months, and they're waiting, and then L-D finally shows up, discovers that they're there, and starts totally dismantling their operation. [18:00:24] And that basically brings us up to the present. Oh, and if it's not apparent to anyone here already, Staera and Astera are telepaths, and Farim reads auras. [18:01:12] And being what they are, they can do all sorts of cool stuff like fly, and pull Lorium energy out of their saturated bloodstream, and all that. [18:02:32] So that's basically it. They learn very quickly that Fern is important, so when they discovere that she's to be whisked away, Staera runs out after her and causes the first conflict in the narrative. [18:02:52] Trev-MUN [~Trev-MUN@adsl-68-92-10-183.dsl.wcfltx.swbell.net] has joined #batcafe [18:03:38] So, I guess we can summarize what's actually happened in the narrative so far, now, and fill in some of the gaps. [18:05:26] Skiff 24 gets hijacked, which is essentially L-D's men trying to abduct Fern. 64 and 65 get called out to retrieve it, which embroils Rail and company in the story. [18:05:42] <@Es> "Skiff 24, Where Are You?" [18:05:43] Staera shows up and blows things up. [18:06:09] Priste gets his arm vaporized, ow. [18:06:34] So, they're pissed, they chase her back towards the shore, but lose her. [18:06:51] <@Tixus> Wait. [18:07:07] <@Tixus> L-D's men are the ones hijacking the skiff? [18:07:41] Men that he's in control of, yes. He may have Aries cooperation in this, he's surely filled his head with dreams of power. [18:08:57] <@Tixus> I thought Terinthia was hijacking the skiff. [18:09:03] Anyway, they get a dressing down for the fiasco, and then two weeks leave. Rail goes out and by chance discovers Astera in the department store. [18:09:22] <@Tixus> Or was that Staera and some Terinthians trying to stop it? [18:09:29] Well it was intended to look that way, certainly. [18:10:08] Obviously it would look really bad for the government if Garantine forces were discovered attacking their own boat. [18:11:01] Now, the department store bit is sloppy, because my rule of writing is that you get one coincidental meeting, and everything else has to have a reason. [18:11:11] Es [~hooptybot@64.151.173.202] has quit IRC: Ping timeout [18:11:42] <@Tixus> Well, there goes Es. =\ [18:11:55] I also still can't fathom what part of their insurgent operation required that Astera be a clerk in a department store. [18:12:30] <@Tixus> Hmm, maybe that would require some reworking then. [18:12:36] But the setting and the ensuing chaos is so wonderful that I'd really like to find a way to keep it. [18:12:44] <@Tixus> Maybe Astera's not a clerk at a department store... [18:12:51] <@Tixus> But trying to follow Rail for whatever reason. [18:13:32] That attaches importance to Rail that he shouldn't have at this point, and if she were actually intentionally following him she wouldn't have gotten caught. [18:14:02] What we need more is a reason for her to be in that particular department store. [18:14:19] <@Tixus> She needs a new jacket. =\ [18:14:47] But anyway, moving on. They meet, he thinks she's Staera, he chases her, she mocks him, then the cavalry arrives and blows the shit out of her. [18:15:04] <@Tixus> Yeah, pretty much. [18:15:35] <@Tixus> She does the whole flying jig, they end up on some other roof where we learn there are two, then Priste comes and shoots 'em. [18:15:40] But she demonstrates that she can still kick ass. There are fireworks. We learn the shocking truth about their duality, and then Priste shoots her in the head. [18:15:47] <@Tixus> Although, is there enough time between their landing on the roof and Priste's arrival? [18:15:50] Yeah, just like that. [18:16:04] Assuming Priste runs, I think so. [18:16:51] We're going to let Priste be a sharp guy when it comes to battles, he paid attention to where they went and took off right then. [18:17:28] So, here's the important thing, Astera's soul gets intertwined with Staera's at that moment. [18:18:15] I think the fact that they my have been the same soul in the beginning, that got split between twins, probably has something to do with that. [18:18:58] So from this point onward, Staera starts to mentally deteriorate into something very much like schitzophrenia. [18:18:58] <@Tixus> Hey, I just had a thought while I was brushing my teeth. [18:19:12] <@Tixus> As for filling in the gap at that last part. [18:19:19] Ah yeah? [18:19:38] <@Tixus> When looking back to the original story, I think what happened was... [18:19:48] <@Tixus> The gang was at the mall (Rail, Fern, etc.) [18:19:56] Just Rail, actually. [18:20:01] <@Tixus> When some Terinthian dudes suddenly showed up. [18:20:16] <@Tixus> And then Rail and the crew had to chase them down. [18:20:22] Es [~hooptybot@64.151.173.202] has joined #batcafe [18:20:23] ChanServ [services@esper.net] has set mode +o Es [18:20:24] <@Es> ow [18:20:26] Terryn [~byrony@66-79-92-8.dsl.peknil.grics.net] has quit IRC: Ping timeout [18:20:38] Welcome back, Es. [18:20:38] <@Es> I lost the window; somebody's logging, yes? [18:20:43] <@Tixus> Oof, it's contagious. [18:20:45] Yeah, Wervyn's logging. [18:21:19] <@Tixus> Demosthenes: There's something we could write around, then... [18:21:38] <@Tixus> My post. I had Rail by himself. [18:21:51] Send them out together, you think? [18:22:02] <@Tixus> Yes..and whatever happens then is because of Fern. [18:22:14] <@Tixus> Rail could be the one who ends up chasing Staera and outruns the rest. [18:22:19] Hmm. [18:22:24] <@Tixus> And I had a few thoughts. [18:22:28] It's a possibility. [18:22:29] <@Tixus> ...Astera. [18:23:11] <@Tixus> Thought #1: Your one improbable coincidence you plan to allow could be Rail spotting Astera, as opposed to Astera working at the very same place Rail plans to get a jacket. [18:23:24] Terryn [~byrony@66.79.92.10] has joined #batcafe [18:23:27] ChanServ [services@esper.net] has set mode +o Terryn [18:23:50] And if she's tailing Fern, then that's not all that improbable. [18:24:10] <@Tixus> Like, having him look out in some strange direction and catching her out of the corner of his eye, then him getting up to investigate... [18:24:22] <@Tixus> Or... [18:24:36] No, the improbable coincidence in this story is "why did Rail and Priste and everyone else get sent out on the boat together?" [18:24:41] <@Tixus> Thought #2: Fake T-men come in during a second attempt to nab Fern. [18:24:58] And the answer is of course "because they're the ones the story is about." If it had been someone else the story would be about those people. [18:25:39] Anyway, I'd like to finish this part by 7, so let's move on. [18:25:48] <@Tixus> Okay. [18:26:08] After all that, about ten or eleven days later they decide to have a party. [18:26:28] Since Priste is recovered and all that. They go out to eat, and we have our senior games story. [18:27:29] Following that, they go to a pub, Rail gets really drunk. At this point Staera's operation is in shambles and she's essentially decided to go out with a bang and try to rescue her best friend, whom we've hinted is in grave bodily danger. [18:28:13] So she contacts Rail and tells him what he needs to know about Fern, conferring that responsibility to him. [18:28:27] Maybe sort of spitefully, since he seems to be the cause of her problems. [18:28:51] Then Rail presumably passes out and gets dragged to Rita's bunk, and Staera goes on a Raid. [18:29:45] Now, because of this rather nebulous Lorium Net thing which is our magical solution to Staera's god-moding, she's weaker than if she were normal there. [18:30:40] But she powers through it, makes her way inside, and about halfway there realizes that it has to be a trap. This goes back to what L-D tried before, to get her to join him. [18:31:11] She figures that the reason she isn't dead yet is because that's what he wants, so from that point she basically marches right in and confronts him. [18:31:12] <@Tixus> And also memories of Farim pwning Staera at that one game. [18:31:31] <@Tixus> Um...I thought he gets her. [18:31:32] Yeah, there was that too, double purpose flashback. [18:31:43] Well she gets grabbed when she does this, yes. [18:32:13] So there's talkie talkie, she waits for an opportunity to kill him to make the whole ordeal worth at least something. [18:32:36] Then Aries shows up, and he's like "WTF is going on?" [18:33:21] <@Tixus> I thought Aries showed up first. [18:33:27] <@Tixus> Like, just a really bizarre encounter. [18:33:36] In the confusion she panics and decides to run, and makes it to the ballroom before she gets taken down. [18:33:55] Yeah, I tossed that, couldn't figure out how to get it to work. [18:34:51] So, she's being toyed with, and thinks she's going to die, and then L-D decides he wants to have some fun so he cuts the power. Apparently he's gotten himself in good enough to have the means to do this when he wants. [18:35:35] So, suddenly with renewed strength, she just destroys about 20 guards, and then looks up at L-D watching her. [18:35:59] And Aries is there too, and he's basically pissing himself, but since L-D has engineered this whole situation he's just smiling. [18:36:47] Then Farim, remember her, shows up and blows a hole in Staera's stomach from behind, which totally takes the wind out of her sails. [18:37:07] <@Tixus> And speaks to her mentally before that, right? [18:37:25] Insert badass superpower fight here, Staera barely manages to hang on through desperation alone. [18:38:18] <@Tixus> I thought the power going out on the L-Net was the reason she managed to escape. [18:38:33] Needless to say, the palace gets almost entirely trashed. In her deteriorating state, the Astera consciousness finally manages to wrest control and run the hell away, which L-D did not anticipate. [18:38:49] Since it's not at all characteristic for Staera to back down, ever. [18:39:26] So, Aries is right pissed. [18:39:33] <@Tixus> And then Aries is like "YOU GOT SUM SPLAINING TO DO" [18:39:43] <@Tixus> And somewhere along the lines I think Aries kills L-D. [18:39:50] I'm thinking he just cuts off one of L-D's legs. [18:40:35] But he definitely physically maims him in some way, for completely overstepping his bounds, and only keeps him alive out of his own greed for what L-D has offered him and what he believes only L-D can do. [18:40:57] Which is some rather vague project that may or may not involve a giant cannon of some sort. [18:41:05] <@Es> Cannon. =D [18:41:08] But is almost certainly tied to the power of the Lorilith. [18:41:21] <@Es> Yeah, let's just cement the FF7 thing for good xD [18:41:26] Yes, we're just pushing the FF7 parallel as far as we can. [18:42:05] A~anyway. [18:42:41] Staera escapes, doesn't really remember how she escapes, but does. Whiste (from the shack before the Raid) patches up her hurt. [18:43:11] Now Aries is convinced that Sixten is behind this somehow. [18:43:59] He's super paranoid about his brother trying to usurp the presidency from him, to the point of madness, so he demands that he be transported to a penal colony in Rikst, from the maximum security Garantine prison in the city. [18:44:17] <@Es> And blown up! [18:44:45] Was blowing up the prison part of the plan? Anyway. L-D's scheming goes into overdrive. [18:44:59] <@Es> I was gonna have him sabotage the train over the desert. [18:45:28] Ah, so you think Aries had the train sabotaged. [18:45:29] <@Tixus> ! [18:45:31] <@Tixus> I just had an idea. [18:45:58] <@Tixus> Giant cannon, powered by Lorilith... [18:46:06] <@Tixus> But Lithos' intent isn't to use it as a cannon. [18:46:38] <@Es> Lithos just wants to ruin stuff. [18:46:39] <@Tixus> But to perform one gigantic Lorium conversion. [18:46:50] Tixus: I've had exactly that same idea. [18:47:02] <@Es> And use the power to BREAK STUFF [18:47:05] <@Tixus> The Lorilith is the first thing to go. [18:47:17] <@Tixus> And then the rest of Lorium... [18:47:18] Yeah, the energy released would just level most major cities. [18:47:43] It'd be like detonating several nuclear bombs in every population center on the planet. [18:47:44] <@Tixus> And I guess his purpose was to have L-D and Aries think they were working on some big weapon. [18:47:51] <@Es> Of course, the full measure of its power is in the ladies. [18:48:01] In the ladies, heh. [18:48:19] <@Es> Which is why Fern and Staera and everybody with such significant have to encounter it, before Lithos can do anything. [18:48:24] <@Es> significance [18:48:32] <@Tixus> Hm, interesting. [18:48:33] Yeah. [18:48:35] I like that. [18:48:46] <@Tixus> So after they encounter it, that's when Lithos begins to come back? [18:48:52] <@Tixus> And then later kills everyone? [18:48:59] <@Es> As it is, the Lorilith may be significantly weaker, or perhaps disabled or useless in some way. [18:49:49] So Raile's home country has a malicious intent now? o_o [18:49:50] <@Tixus> Okies. [18:49:53] But, the train. It get's sabotaged, with the purpose of capturing Fern (again), and perhaps killing Sixten as well. [18:50:01] <@Es> Trev, yeah, they've got a twisted leader. [18:50:10] <@Tixus> Really twisted. [18:50:15] Indigo da Vira shows up to do this, but there's inside help. [18:50:26] <@Tixus> Indigo. [18:50:38] <@Tixus> Inside help, as in Janice? [18:50:45] Janice is the plan, yeah. [18:50:49] <@Es> Indigo is the son of an old rival family to Priste's. [18:51:08] <@Tixus> ! [18:51:12] <@Tixus> I never knew that! [18:51:13] And I was thinking the administrator, Elaine, had ties to Staera's former organization and got herself assigned for similar reasons. [18:51:21] <@Es> Tixus, yeah, that's where he comes in. [18:51:34] Ah yeah, there's a major rivalry/hatred between Priste and Indigo. [18:51:39] Which will be awesome. [18:51:50] <@Tixus> "Indigo: nice arm" [18:51:53] <@Es> Heh. [18:51:55] <@Tixus> "Priste: ..shut up" [18:52:09] <@Es> "Priste: Nice LUNCHBOX" [18:52:23] "Indigo: ... nice snargle" [18:52:24] <@Es> "Indigo: i keep guns in it" [18:52:33] <@Es> Heh =O [18:52:44] *HOBOCRAK.xm plays as the cannon fires and the world melts like in Hobo Dan* [18:52:46] <@Es> And that's when the desert gets sucked into a giant black vortex. [18:53:02] you wrote this web novel with your hands [18:53:03] didn't you [18:53:04] Anyway, Indigo absconds with Fern, though he fails to kill Sixten because Sixten is a fighter and Indigo just figures he'd do better to get out of there. [18:53:05] <@Es> xD [18:53:07] AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA [18:53:27] <@Es> Heh, SNAAAAAAAAAAA. [18:53:49] Rail and co. make their way to the nearest village, where Staera, recovered, has also followed them, and that's the last post that's been written. [18:53:50] <@Tixus> Okay, so Sixten runs off. [18:54:21] <@Es> Wait, we have writing that took place in Rikst?? [18:54:26] <@Tixus> He could be like the dangerous prisoner the gang needs to round up that they think they can't trust but they can. [18:54:31] Es, did you not read that post? [18:54:36] <@Es> I didn't think we got there yet? [18:54:49] I'm sure you did, you commented on it. Or maybe it was Tixus who commented on it. [18:55:05] <@Tixus> I did do my share of commenting. [18:55:10] It was a neat little piece that took place in a Lorian church. [18:55:18] <@Es> Ohh, that, yeah. [18:55:21] <@Es> Okay. [18:55:31] <@Es> Last post I remember writing was the briefing in Mission Assembly. [18:55:39] That was the last post you wrote. [18:56:07] So, does anyone have any questions? Bramble, you've been awfully quiet, are you actually here? [18:56:42] <@Es> Well, one thing we know is that events have to lead them to Terinthia eventually. [18:56:57] Right. [18:57:07] Where...things happen. [18:57:44] And then Lithos manifests, I'm thinking he posesses Fern, and kills everyone. [18:57:55] <@Es> Yeah, that's been planned for awhile. [18:58:29] Yeah, here's where the story gets fuzzy. And I'm afraid we're out of time to really elaborate on it. [18:58:29] <@Es> In Terinthia they learn what little is known about the Lorilith, and how they think they can use it. [18:58:39] <@Es> You gotta go? [18:58:44] YOU gotta go. [18:58:47] That's what you told me. [18:58:50] You gotta GOOOOO!!! [18:58:51] <@Es> Oh, I gotta go at 7:45. [18:59:00] Oh. Well then we've got time yet. [18:59:03] <@Es> I told you 7 because it was a nice conservative estimate. [18:59:17] I see. [18:59:22] <@Es> Work's at 8 =) [18:59:38] Wow, 6:00 already? o_o [18:59:39] Okay, so they find out about the Lorilith. [19:00:02] <@Es> Eventually they'll get this expedition out to the Western Icecap. [19:00:13] Then they go and try to use it, which allows Lithos to use it, and he posesses Fern, and there's a battle that they're definitely going to lose. [19:00:24] Although there are going to be cool fights. [19:00:29] <@Es> Yeah, there are. =D [19:01:04] <@Es> I'm thinking that when they lose Fern, and the mages or whomever else we'll include, they're taken to Garantine City, and Terinthia has to launch a full-scale attack. [19:01:25] They die, but they don't REALLY die, Es has described this as "The Sleep", and we get some introspection on all of the main characters before they all wake up on Eden. [19:01:41] <@Es> Hm, on Eden. [19:01:59] Well you'd previously said that, and that Fern was from Eden. [19:02:06] <@Es> Ah, yeah. [19:02:12] <@Es> We should re-jigger that so that she's from World 6. [19:02:22] <@Es> Preferrably, world 6-3, which is the cool icy stage. [19:02:42] Maybe, but if each of them are from one of the different worlds, it might make sense if she were the first. [19:02:56] <@Es> Ah, yeah. [19:04:04] Alright, so they get some sage advice, Astera gets to resume her role as a separate character here as well. [19:04:19] <@Tixus> Question. [19:04:23] <@Tixus> Is Fern still a Terinthian? [19:04:27] And then get sent back somehow, with new powers, and triumph. Good wins, the end. [19:04:47] <@Es> Oh yeah, that was a snargle. [19:04:54] Ah yeah, there's a thing. Fern is Terinthian, what exactly led to her moving to Garantine? [19:05:39] <@Es> I believe it's got to be some kind of estrangement, either that or zomg now she's from somewhere else. [19:06:27] <@Tixus> Then she wouldn't be from Fern. [19:06:28] Possibly her parents fled when they realized that the government was collecting "special" children for use in the war, e.g. Staera. [19:06:42] <@Tixus> Hey, good idea. [19:06:47] <@Tixus> What happened to her "parents" anyway? [19:06:54] <@Es> Ah yeah, that works. [19:07:34] So she naturalized and spent time in a backwater Garantine village until something compelled her to join the military. [19:08:35] <@Tixus> She wanted to be a medic. [19:08:44] <@Tixus> Um...did she know she was capable of healing at that point? [19:08:49] Pobably. [19:08:50] <@Tixus> The generic healer. [19:09:07] Heh. I'll bet when they have fights later she'll use a rod. [19:09:17] <@Es> We suck =( [19:09:39] <@Tixus> And she'll do like 0 - 3 damage. [19:09:43] <@Es> We'll have to compensate by making her a total sword badass. [19:09:52] Heh. [19:09:57] <@Tixus> They use guns. [19:10:08] <@Es> Right, a really, really big sword. [19:10:13] Staera's going to have an awesome energy sword. [19:10:25] <@Tixus> Es: How about a fencing sword? [19:10:28] That she manifests out of her dagger. [19:10:38] <@Tixus> Demosthenes: Like a light-saber? [19:10:38] <@Es> I did thought experiments about Lorium-user beam swords but decided that might be pushing it =( [19:10:50] Sort of. [19:10:55] <@Tixus> A meta-blade? [19:11:09] Heh. [19:11:10] <@Es> A MEGA BLADE [19:11:38] RAil Xenth... [19:11:50] <@Es> =O [19:11:52] <@Tixus> Was his name Rax or Rex? [19:11:55] Rax. [19:11:59] <@Tixus> Okay. [19:12:08] <@Tixus> Because I called him Rax and Exo said "You keep calling him that." [19:12:16] Where's Exo when you need him. [19:12:51] Alright. Maybe some political structure? [19:12:53] <@Tixus> The legendary meta-blade named after some restaurant chain. [19:13:16] Garantine has a presidency, but succession seems to operate like a monarchy. [19:13:44] <@Es> They might have had no replacement, and Aries assumed power via the confusion. [19:14:05] <@Es> ...Good Lord, this is Final Fantasy 7. [19:14:12] <@Es> What have I done =O [19:14:12] Generally there are systems set up for exactly that sort of thing, though. [19:14:36] Hey, as long as the Garantine presidency isn't also a corporation... [19:15:25] <@Es> Heh, yeah, we're in the clear there. [19:15:45] "LoriCo" [19:16:44] That still bugs me, though, because it just doesn't seem to make sense. Aries is like, 18. [19:16:56] <@Tixus> 18?? =O [19:17:12] <@Tixus> I never knew this. [19:17:29] Well he's young, that's for sure. [19:17:37] <@Tixus> It is? [19:17:44] <@Tixus> That's new on me. [19:17:46] We could change this, of course. [19:17:54] <@Tixus> I always imagined him being in his 30's at the least. [19:18:29] For the sake of things maybe it's better if he actually ran for president and won. [19:18:38] <@Tixus> I think so. [19:18:39] <@Es> Probably. [19:18:45] <@Es> He doesn't have to be the president's son, either. [19:18:48] <@Tixus> And not be some 18-year-old punk. [19:18:53] <@Tixus> Like Revolver Ocelot in MGS3. [19:18:57] <@Es> I think it'd help us to get rid of that. [19:18:59] Which would have him in his 30's. That means Apol's post needs retooling. [19:19:18] Because it's Apollyon's description most of all that makes him seem like a teenager. [19:19:30] <@Tixus> I think I remember having an issue with that but then forgetting about it completely. [19:19:50] I definitely want to keep his amputation fetish, though. [19:20:01] <@Es> Toothbrush fetish =D [19:20:03] <@Tixus> Yick. [19:20:04] Sick little bastard. [19:20:14] <@Es> Yeah, he should be twisted to the max. [19:20:18] <@Tixus> Yeah, I guess he could still be a sicko. [19:20:23] Es BT - Remember [19:20:46] Now Terinthia, I always imagined having a High Council. [19:20:59] <@Es> Yeah, something to that effect. [19:21:06] <@Es> Terinthia will be a fun place to design. [19:21:14] Circles and sevens. [19:21:16] <@Es> Very antique and curvey and sprawling. [19:21:28] <@Tixus> Marble city? [19:21:36] Stone, certainly. [19:21:41] <@Es> I think lots of iron. [19:21:46] <@Es> Iron, wood, stone. [19:21:57] <@Es> Bricks. [19:22:03] <@Es> Lots of bricks. [19:22:11] I'm not sure. Bricks aren't very curvy. [19:22:46] <@Es> Hey, Tix, did I ever send you this song? [19:22:48] <@Es> BT - Remember? [19:22:48] I see Terinthia in sort of a neo-Roman motif. [19:22:54] <@Es> Or Wervyn, either, you'd like it I bet. [19:22:58] <@Tixus> No. [19:23:06] <@Tixus> I might like it. [19:23:08] <@Es> Want it? [19:23:11] <@Tixus> Sure. [19:23:13] <@Tixus> But not now. [19:23:14] <@Es> R0x. [19:23:16] <@Tixus> I've got some stuff to do. [19:23:16] I have not heard it. Wait for it until later tonight, though. [19:23:23] <@Es> Well, I'll be at work until 12. [19:23:27] After you get back from work, I'll be at home. [19:23:32] <@Es> I'll surely be on afterwards, though, yeah. [19:23:44] And you can send it to me, and I can send you STORYWRITER, since I'd been meaning to do that. [19:23:52] <@Es> Hrm, what is that? [19:24:00] Cool track from Eureka Seven. [19:24:03] <@Es> Ahh, fun. [19:24:39] <@Es> Yeah, if you like Hybrid, you'll like this, I'm fairly sure. [19:24:49] Cool. [19:25:14] <@Tixus> So.. [19:25:23] Yeah, what else. [19:25:41] <@Tixus> Hmm, I dunno. [19:25:51] <@Tixus> Try to lay out some more events? [19:25:52] We can't really start to develop any areas in 15 minutes. [19:26:09] So laying out other stuff that we've thought of so far is the only thing. [19:26:11] <@Tixus> Yeah, so it seems the meeting's pretty much come to a close. [19:26:16] inmatarian [inmate2993@ool-4579da4d.dyn.optonline.net] has joined #batcafe [19:26:20] <@Tixus> Janice. [19:26:25] Ah, Janice. [19:27:09] Yes, she's interesting. I think perhaps the way to play it is that she's extremely loyal to the administration, and probably has a grudge from the past against Terinthians. [19:27:09] <@Tixus> You know, something I've noticed... [19:27:31] <@Tixus> SotF is getting a little crowded with backstabbers, double agents and triple agents who all have connections. [19:27:49] Yeah, that's probably my fault. [19:28:41] <@Tixus> There's Farim, Janice, Elaine, hmm... [19:29:08] <@Tixus> And of course, Luc-Derren. [19:29:25] Yeah. Janice, let's just make her a member of Aries secret police. [19:29:56] <@Tixus> But I think a good measure would be to not have so many characters with connections with the opposing forces. [19:30:07] And she's basically received an order that Fern has been discovered as a traitor, and needs to be taken out. [19:30:19] Discretely, hence the sabatoge. [19:30:37] She's told to stop the train. I don't think she knows what's going to happen next. [19:30:50] <@Tixus> When I picture Janice, I picture somebody tough... [19:30:51] <@Tixus> Like Zoe. [19:31:13] That eliminates her role as a scheming double agent. [19:31:24] <@Tixus> But also, somebody who lets their emotions get in the way. [19:31:43] Yeah, hmm. [19:31:44] <@Tixus> Only not the type who would let on to that. [19:32:06] <@Es> i'm in ur base [19:32:10] <@Es> killin ur doods [19:32:23] When Indigo starts getting violent, it's probably going to upset her, she didn't think she was going to be hurting her friends. [19:32:51] Priste she doesn't really care about so much, but Rail and Rita are friends. [19:34:02] So, what else? [19:34:11] Sixten, what about his motivations... [19:34:14] <@Tixus> Priste and Indigo should go at it immediately when they first encounter each other. [19:34:19] <@Tixus> Sixten... [19:34:50] <@Tixus> Sixten knows of Aries' schemes, somehow. [19:35:34] Yeah. I've wrestled with the idea of making him one of the Lorilith children. Still not sure if it's too convenient to do so, but it would allow him to have a power. [19:35:43] <@Tixus> Perhaps he tried to turn Aries in, only to encounter Aries' secret police. [19:35:49] <@Tixus> Nah, I don't think he needs a power. [19:36:31] Maybe so. Him trying to do something against Aries and being jailed for that reason, and for what he discovered, is probably better. [19:36:47] <@Tixus> I think his power would be sheer strength, that he gets from doing all those pushups in his jail cell. [19:37:16] Yeah, he's gonna fight like a beast. Hard enough to disuade Indigo from trying to kill him. [19:37:32] Indigo will use his Boba Fett jetpack to get away! [19:37:51] <@Tixus> I thought he had a hovercar, or something. [19:39:24] Well hmm. [19:39:39] I'm not sure what the best way for him to make his exit is. [19:40:07] <@Tixus> Depends on his personality. [19:40:08] I have to think he feels forced to leave in order to successfully complete part of his mission. [19:40:23] Since otherwise he'd stick around and at least kill Priste, just because. [19:40:30] <@Tixus> It'll probably be your generic "Well, that's all the time I have for today!! Next time you won't be so lucky. LOL" [19:40:49] We can do better. [19:40:53] <@Tixus> Yeah. [19:41:03] Anyway, that's all the time we have for today. Next time you won't be so lucky! [19:41:27] <@Tixus> DEMOSTHENES!! COME BACK! [19:41:40] TETSUO!!! KANEDA!!! [19:41:42] <@Tixus> Aww, man! Time to go to the next level. [19:42:04] I'm guessing Es is probably already gone. [19:42:11] <@Tixus> Yep. [19:42:17] <@Tixus> So, in closing. [19:42:32] <@Tixus> We've got some work to do if we want this to not be FF7. [19:42:40] Yes. [19:42:49] Now for some supper, later. [19:42:51] <@Tixus> Right now we're kinda on the line. [19:42:55] <@Tixus> Yeah, later. [19:43:22] Demosthenes [~kvirc@adsl-219-235-253.asm.bellsouth.net] has quit IRC: Quit: Lambchops lambchops Lambchop's Play Along
