Oh man. This is an OLD duo of games. In fact, these are two of the first MegaZeux games I ever played, back from 1997. I was 13 then. Not having played many MZX games at the time, I really warmed up to this game, and I think it was even the reason I moved on from ZZT to begin with.

But looking back, Violence isn't really all that good. Both games are comprised entirely of boss fights. Sometimes you'll fight single character robots, and other times you'll fight huge bosses made of solids and a few robots that take up the entire screen. Most of the huge bosses, especially the big weird guy in Violence 2, are extremely tedious fights where you have to hit the boss in a specific spot. As far as that weird guy is concerned, you have to stand right in his range of fire to even touch the tongue you're supposed to shoot, because Xero decided to block off his sides. Very primitive and boring.

The graphics in both games are pretty bad, but they have their moments when they go from horrible to mediocre (specifically, the space station in V1 and the street in V2). The aforementioned big weird guy's eyes were a clever touch, but not very well constructed.

There's music in the game at select points, but it's usually just CV_BOSS.MOD. Occasionally, Xero may mix things up a bit by using CV_BALON.MOD, and a song ripped from Super Zero 1 which hasn't been available for download for ages. Hooray! As for the sound, it's just default MZX fodder.

The plot is practically nonexistant in V1 until you reach NASA, at which point the only continuity to V2 begins. In V2, it's basically just "stop your evil brother and his minions from taking over the world". Woo.

Overall, despite my fond memories of the Violence Pak as two of the first games I ever downloaded, there's no escaping the fact that it's just not that good. It's still better than Blue Buckaroo, though, and there's a few parts you may laugh at. Download it if you're bored.
