I was just browsing through the archives when I came upon my very first game, before Jello. I thought, "hey it Bob's Adventure, might aswell review it seeing how nothings been reviewed in quite some time". So here you go.

Bob's adventure is an adventure game with lots of action, and is quite hard. You have a basic mzx pistol and fight enemies so primitive you'd think they were builtins. You must collect all the gems on the level to open the door to go to the next level. You also need keys to unlock other doors on the level (on level 5 a key is missing, place it somewhere in the editor before you play). I think those doors were builtins, though I'm not too sure.
The graphics aren't particularily stunning, but they won't make you throw up either.
Music - all taken from other games.

Pretty much its an okay game, but it's old, so don't expect great effects.

Impressive for a newbie game, but still badly flawed. You go around a set of levels divided into 9 sections and pick up all the gems so you can open the door to the next level. You get all 200 of your health back between levels...

There are enemies, and you can't stop them. Some are non-threatening, but the ones you see in screenshot 1 mark the area where the game becomes unbeatable: they're supposed to stop chasing you if you get them trapped on something and move 11 spaces away, but they follow so aggressively that losing them is an exercise in luck. You'll be lucky if you can make them move more than 1 space away before they drain all of your health.

Less fatal but still annoying is a bug where if an enemy pushes you past a segment's boundary, the screen won't scroll to where he pushed you. All you have to do is move blindly until you either get a game over from an enemy you can't see or regain control of the view port.

The bosses, since you can't fire on them directly, are killed using a set of turrets mounted in a circle around the middle of the level. Basically, you have to wait until the boss randomly wanders into the path of a turret, make it to that turret before they move, and press against the turret to fire it. Extremely aggravating and tedious, especially considering the bosses have a lot of health. This leads to the second fatal bug: the exit to the next level didn't open after I defeated the second boss!

The final dungeon and final boss are really horrible. These last levels have all of the problems of level 5 but several orders of magnitude worse. It's really easy to become trapped permanently. You can't hit the final boss with bullets unless you power through the explosive barrier you see in screenshot 3, and if you have enough health remaining, fire wildly at him. If you try and shoot him from a distance you can't because that explosive barrier, it's very annoying.

Graphics are surprisingly good for a newbie game and even feature an edited palette! The game board aesthetics are really featureless, though. Music is from a selection of overused songs from other Megazeux games....

What a mess!
