Sorry for posting after myself like this but I do have a good request. How about we have a bucket fill in the char editor now we have all these chars to manage at once? I'm sure somebody has suggested this before, however it was a useless idea at the time because the char editor was 1x1.

EDIT: Seems I got a bit too excitified. Read below.

Here's a way to give more insight into all those debugging problems. Create a demo format that will keep a record of all keypresses (you'll probably need mouse clicks too). Now, this could simply be printed out in a human-readable format, or actually read back into mzx much like demo files in Half-Life or other such games. This would show you exactly what the person did preceeding a crash. There could be a commandline option to enable this, or even better in my mind, MZX creates this file every time it's run, then deletes it on exit. If it crashes then the file should still be around, and you can have people send it to you. In order to have it not be overwritten, mzx could check for the existence of mzxdebug.dump or something, and just keep adding numbers on the end if it exists.

That's a neat idea but exo'll never do it. Could you put in some kind of random fill option? Like, you highlight a block, and then you copy it and use a special fill to fill an area with a random assortment of whatever was in the block. Not necessary, but it would make certain things go much faster.

This is where it's handy to do that kind of thing in Robotic then save the result as an MZM.

add a key to create a backup without having to wait for the automatic one. every time i want to back up my work in the robotic editor, i have to quit and wait 20 seconds.

i had another request, but i forgot...

There's a key for that, it's called s :p And you can always make it back up more regularly than 20s (try 1 second?)

Use 1 second. It doesn't noticably slow you down unless you're working on a comp with a slow processor/hdd- I've been using 1 second with 5 backups, and it's great

Could the f* functions get remapped? Or possibly doubled? Only because Mac has already abused all of my f keys for brightness, volume, and expose. I was think alt+number would do the same as the f key of the same number.

Another mostly useless request: give an option for making the text in text boxes use the mzx_default char set instead of using the current one.

Also, could you add where you can play sounds at a particular volume.

Example: Sam 80 100 "boom.wav" (100 being the percent volume)

Then you could do things like noises getting louder the closer you are.

Usually if you want to make sams louder you can do..

sam 450 "boom.sam"
sam 450 "boom.sam"
sam 450 "boom.sam"

It makes it louder if multiple sam channels are allowed but I don't think this works in the new versions of MZX.

Hm? Doesn't on my comp. Usally the clipping is heard on poorly recorded sounds.

Robots already do that. Stop using scrolls and signs. Builtin objects = builtin text (actually, the reason why it's like that is because it'd otherwise make the scroll editor all funky)

Goshi: Not poorly recorded, just loud sound effects. You also get an echo effect which may be useful.

Hm? Is that so, maybe my speakers are to quite although then gain I nrver have them on max volume. The echo is nice if you want to simulate caves which is nice. Now the only thing is if you want sound effects to be less noisy...

Well, I wasn't talking about scrolls and signs. Robots use the current font for in game text boxes. But nevermind. You'll just say use overlay text boxes.

What about the sound thing, or was that so ridiculous it doesn't warrant a response? Or is it already planned?

No, it's not planned. And robots use the GAME FONT, not the edit font (save for the robot name), and I don't know what you're talking about (you could be a little less vague than "current font".. or else how does saying use overlay text boxes fix it?)

Exo, I think SeventhShade was asking whether the [ textboxes are supposed to use the game font or the editor font, and then decided that using overlay text boxes would fix whatever problem he had.

And Pyro, the number of robots is a file format limit that cannot be altered at this point in time.

No. A way to find out how many robots there are: test the board, exit, then place a robot. Its param number (in hex) will represent how many robots there are.

Hopefully the following are possible, and not retarded.

--+ Indentation in the Robotic editor. Indentation is, well, we all know how nifty it is. Unless you don't, in which case you should be shot in the head with a brick, or possibly a spanner.

--+ A MegaZeux icon! In the spirit of the niftier versions, a set of 32 bit icons (with alpha) and such. This has been brought up before, hasn't it... anywhom. I just think it'd be nifty to have official megazeux icons. I have no idea how Linux handles icons, and the Mac OS icons are freaking awesome, so let's just ignore this lovely piece of text because I no longer have any idea what I'm talking about.

Well, yeah. Indentation would be cool.

As much as I'd like to have it, it's impossible because source is stored as bytecode, so anything like this would get lost (unless it's made part of the bytecode, but I don't want to think about such a thing. It's bad enough that comments are)

In Exotic indentation is not only allowed but required for code blocks...

icons in linux usually use the "xpm" format, though they can technically use just about any image format you can think of, except, oddly enough, ico.

dun dun du DUN!
a quick list:
smiley.ico - the standard mzx smiley.
mzxsmiley.ico - same as above, but with "mzx" on the bottom
cansmzx.ico - it had to be done =P
mzx.ico - a dmzx-style mzx icon. my personal favorite.

are you going to just implement the best one or can you put multiple icons in one exe (i think so, but i'm not sure.)

anyway, there ya go!

It's a good start, but I prefer my icons looking more like documents (the whole paper sheet thing going) or like the modified HL/HL2 icons that I found somewhere (can't be bothered to upload a screenshot, it's anti-aliased in a well-defined circle).

you ask, we deliver

blank.ico - a template
btb32.ico - the name says it all. an mzx icon in honor of BtB. also has alpha 0.0
cansmzx.ico - same as before
chr.ico - an icon for chr files
megazeux.ico - had to rename mzx.ico to this. icon for executable
mzb.ico - an mzb icon
mzm.ico - you guessed it!
mzx.ico - an icon for mzx files.
mzxsmiley.ico - same as before
pal.ico - duh
smiley.ico - same as before

i know that the 16x16 versions of the file extension ones all look almost the same, but there's only so much you can do with 16x16.

any other requests? special game icons (i.e. btb or cans)?

Just out of curiousity, how is Robotic code going to be handled in v3.0?

I think a compiled format would be kind of neat (i.e. every individual unique robot would have its own source file that would be compiled to byte code) and is possibly the cleanest way if it were done automatically and transparently, but that would kind of defeat the handy "learn from others" technique that Robotic coders tend to use when they see something cool.
