I think I may have just had the best grilled-cheese sandwich of my life. It was actually a grilled ham and cheese, at the generic-student-cafe-thing at University of Portland, but it was awesome. Cheese melted just right, the bread wasn't too toasted and or under-toasted. The ham was pretty awesome too. Fries were also involved, which may have biased my opinion because those were better than usual.

Anyway, what's the best grilled cheese of your life? Grilled [insert meat here, nmiaow, and] cheese sandwiches are also acceptable.

i used to bang out rancid grilled cheese sandwiches out of my main man george f's grill. ingredients:

- cheese!
- ham
- ultra spicy pepperoni sliced thinly
- red onion
- tomato?
- coleslaw on the side

absolutely disgustingly nice.

Great. 4:43AM and I'm starving thanks to this thread. Anyways the fanciest grilled cheese I've ever eaten was one my mom made with tomato and maybe bacon as well. I don't exactly remember seeing that I haven't had one in quite some time.

I've never had grilled cheese that consisted of more than bread and cheese. My mom made that for me all the time. Hers turned out pretty good.

I like cheese and onion myself. The best cheese sarnie i ever had though, i was in a creative mood (actually, i was just so friggin hungry, i didn't really care what i ate, so long as it was filling, and i was sick of pot noodles). I added corned beef, tomatoe puree, onions, woster sauce (to people who want to use the real name, worchestershire sauce), i cooked up the ingredients in a pan, and i filled a cheese sandwich with it, and put it into the sarnie toaster, and toasted it. It had a great taste. Unfortunatly, i've been so far, unable to recreate it. It's just one of those pot luck things i guess.

I generally just have normal bread-and-cheese... although I have mine with whole grain bread because it's healthier and tastes better =d My mom makes the best ones, all the restaurants I've been to always seem to not put enough cheese on or they undercook it or whatever.
The diner here on campus actually only puts one slice of cheese on. Just one! It's blasphemy, I tell you.

Didn't you know? They're making Spartan-style grilled cheeses.

As for me, I usually have grilled cheeses this way:
  • Whole Grain Bread
  • Sliced Cheese, usually the prepackaged types
  • Soy Esterol Butter (No lie. This stuff is the antibutter. Cleans your heart!)

The sandwich itself doesn't make the meal, if you ask me - it's only good if there's a bowl of hot tomato soup to go with it. Without the soup, the sandwich is nothing. Well, unless it's one of those loaded ones Barbarian mentioned. That actually sounds really tasty.

Never had any grilled cheese sandwiches with anything other than cheese on it but I can't exactly recall a specific one that was good but I'm sure I've had some. Maybe the last good one I had was a couple weeks ago at the dining hall here but they've been sucky the past week. All dry and not very good tasting.

Reminds me of Subway Sandwiches. They're fully loaded. I'm going to be getting a footlong tommorow, they're only 2.99 on Tuesdays for some reason at the Union Street branch.

actually weasel is right. tomato soup is just as important in the meal as the grilled cheese. i prefer campbell's tomato soup reconstituted with milk and heated in a saucepan.
the grilled cheese should be white bread buttered on both sides with a couple of thick slabs of velveeta cheese melted to perfection. the bread should be toasted to a golden brown.
and milk makes the best beverage to go with it, imo.

Bread, ham and cheese.

I don't really like soup because it kind of feels futile eating it for whatever kind of non-water content it has, if it has any. I usually eat soup straight out of the can.
Need a dispenser here.

Personally, my own grilled cheeses are better than others that I've had . and I only use Bread, cheese, and some butter. Besides, I dislike a majority of meats.

The food in the refectory at the college i attended was shit. They staff wondered why people we're going to the SFK outlet (Southen Fried Chicken, a small two store fast food chain that no longer exists. Food was actually allright, but the dudes who took over are even better, they're called Kings Flavour Chicken, pity the initials are copyrighted. :)), or people used to go to the chip shop nearby. I left collage 9 years ago, and my sister rebecca (she's got an admin job within the college), says the food is still shit. Seems some things don't improve with time, like army rations. lmao!

I actually made REAL grilled cheese sandwitch not to long ago.

seriously fire up a BBQ grill, spread a thin BBQ sauce (low sugar if you can find it) on the outside of the bread and put Mont jack cheese between and throw it on the grill, flame it up to flame kiss the bread and dry/burn it a bit, and then leave it on a lower heat to melt the cheese down serv it up on a warm plate with a side of beans

I actually made REAL grilled cheese sandwitch not to long ago.

seriously fire up a BBQ grill, spread a thin BBQ sauce (low sugar if you can find it) on the outside of the bread and put Mont jack cheese between and throw it on the grill, flame it up to flame kiss the bread and dry/burn it a bit, and then leave it on a lower heat to melt the cheese down serv it up on a warm plate with a side of beans

you sir are a scholar and a gentleman.
