I can allow a LIMITED number of people on garion.ath.cx, my former IRC server turned dormant MZXRadio host. It's slightly slower than belsambar and you get 1/10th the space but its free. Its 100MBps but I've basically seen it peak at 10MBps. For comparison, Box43 peaks at 768kbps down 256kbps up. Downspeed and upspeed on this are synchronous (so around 10M/10M)

Go ahead, sign up. PM, email, irc, etc. You know the drill. Give me a username and password and I'll set you up.

Yet another service in the Morrison Megazeuxer Communications Network. :(

<@Tixus> But it failed to send me back in time, and I was disappointed.

I would like a spot.... I may use it. :(

I'll let you know if it turns out I just have no time to work with anything on there, but I'd like to secure a position while I can as I'm sure space will quickly dissapear.

I'm impressed. That's very generous of you, but box43 serves me nicely and I couldn't take this for nothing.

I think the no cost, ad-free web hosting services (with PHP and MySQL, to boot) kind of make up for that. :(

Server scheduled for reboot as I left today, after it stopped responding for a little while. I suspect someone was a little too adventurous with a PHP script. If some services aren't up, contact Apage43, he has the details to log in and fix things while I'm off at orientation.

Reboot scheduled for Monday 0900 GMT. Garion will be down pretty much all weekend. I would like to ask that whoever keeps running a badly coded PHP script that keeps crashing the machine to either stop or pay me the $110 it costs me to reboot out of office hours. I may have to enact PHP safemode on this machine in the meantime.

i don't think it's the avatar script i uploaded (box43 has no trouble with it), but if it is, lemmee know and i'll take it down. or heck, just knock it down yourself. if it is my script, then my apologies =(

I don't think it would be a random avatar script, unless it truly was that badly coded. When Garion wakes up, the logs will tell all.

I don't see how. PHP's logs are utter crap.

The best way to log this is to set up a vmstat / ps poll script until it crashes again, then you can at least see when the CPU went to 100% (or whatever it is causing the crash), and correlate it with the apache access logs.

I was thinking bash logs and http access logs, not PHP logs.

Bash logs aren't timestamped, and last I checked apache didn't log "I crashed here" in its logs.

Couldn't he simply find out the last PHP script that was executed when the system went down? :(

Might work, but it's most likely a runaway process, so somebody doing something stupid in a loop causing lots of new threads, eventually the VDS runs out of resources. In this case I doubt the last script would be the source of the problem..

Insidious, jooc, have you tracked it down?

No. Couldnt even find a culprit in the bash_histories. Lots of banal, mundane crap. I dunno... could be icecast, could be miau. Those were the only two processes other than apache that I can track as having been running at the time. Only ideas I got, anyway. all the HTTP accesses were static so it wasnt PHP stupidity. Could have just been something on their end, someone unplugged the machine. Checked the /v/l/m, didnt find anything big in there either.

BTW it isnt a VDS anymore, its an actual PII 400. lowcostdedi.co.uk, the model that they dont sell anymore. :(

Insid: Looks like there were a few problems with some of their servers recently:
