So, what do you expect?

If you liked MegaZeux 2.84b you'll probably like MegaZeux 2.84c.
If you never used MegaZeux 2.84b you'll might like MegaZeux 2.84c.
If you hated MZXak 1 you'll probably won't like MegaZeux 2.84c.

Is MegaZeux 2.84c better? I think so. ?Have questions?
First check out the changelog
You'll see what I've added.

So when is MegaZeux 2.84c going to be released?
If I said less than a month would you actually believe me?

Well how about now than? Probably not right?
Well I'll guess I'll have to surprise you.

Release Info

Hey all, new version of MegaZeux here! And hopefully without any
crashes this time around! Haha yeah right.

The most notable thing this release (besides fixed crash bugs,
as usual) is the new counter debugger! Give it a try and tell us
what you think!

Counter binary search has been replaced with a hash table in
versions of MegaZeux for most platforms. This has resulted in
slightly faster counter lookups, and MUCH faster creation of
counters, since MegaZeux doesn't have to keep the list ordered.
The hash table is turned off for NDS builds for now due to tight
memory constraints.

Otherwise, most of the new features are editor enhancements and
modifications. Notable mentions are reordering the board list
with 'M' and a custom undo history size.

I sent the OS X builds over to Lachesis to be officially posted, but in the meantime you can snag them from here:

Universal (PPC/x86): http://files.specter...c-universal.dmg
Intel 64-bit (requires a Mac with a Core 2 or better, running at least 10.5): http://files.specter...284c-x86_64.dmg

Windows users that have installed MZX in a location writable by their user can press 'u' after starting, to update an older version to 'c'.

The Ubuntu version requirement was upped to 12.04 LTS in this release. If you have an older version of Ubuntu or a non-Ubuntu distribution, you can still re-build the deb file from sources. Read the instructions in debian/README.

Just officially stating this version is what will be used by the judges for the DoZ.

So far on the playing games side, things look good. I particularly like that the title of the game now shows up in the toolbar when MZX is windowed.

As far as the debug mode goes, it looks pretty sweet so far. I would like to suggest that the old debug mode (ALT+Y in the editor, F6 ingame) be renamed to something else or differentiated somehow from the new debug mode. The old debug mode seems to consist mostly of board statistics, so perhaps it could be called "Board Stats" or something like that.

Hey, I was wondering what happens if a user attempts to play a game made in a newer version of MegaZeux? I'm assuming an error pops up? Does it provide a URL information on where to obtain the latest version? I could easily check this out for myself, but I'm feeling a bit busy working on something at the moment.

An error does pop up, with the minimum version of MegaZeux required to run the world. This is only true for major world versions (2.82, 2.83, 2.84); for example, 2.84c games WILL play in 2.84b. You can update MZX by pressing F7/U on a title screen; this feature has existed since MegaZeux 2.82b. Users with older versions will have to download the latest version.

Hi, I've been using/playing megazeux since 1995, but I've never tried to be a part of the community. Not sure why, I'm just not very social. But I'm gonna try, here goes. I pressed 'U' last night and updated to mzx2.84c and was blown away by that process. First I didn't realize that was a possibility, guess it helps to stay up to date with the community. Second, man it worked great. I just can't believe how smooth that update process was. Third, I love the new debug feature. What an awesome implementation. Thank you to Lachesis and all of the rest who have worked to make Megazeux what it is. Your hard work shows, it just continues to get better by leaps and bounds.
Currently working on Servo for MegaZeux, I hope to complete it by the middle of 2015? Who knows...

Welcome, and thanks a bunch. :( ajs added the updater in 2.82b, and everyone's lives have been easier since.

Did you make Servo and the Amnesia demos by any chance?

Yep. Wow, people actually remember the games I made so long ago? That's fantastic. Thank you.

Roughly ten years ago, I anxiously waited as MZX (version who-knows-what) slooooowly downloaded via my dial-up connection. All those kilobytes!

Today: less than a damn second.

I feel old.

3½ floppy disks. That was before they invented USB Flash drives. 1.44 MB disk? HA! This smaller USB Flash can hold 64 GB!

Well I'm surprised that I was missed after I had uploaded my still known as terrible rip-off games like CR2-6 which was built on Fred the Freak Gaiden, the Delphi-X Trilogy which was based on a crummy DoZ game and a couple of Gemini's unfinished games (Station Evacuation 1 & 2), Aquatic Marine which was based on one of Bramble's unfinished games (The Messenger), and my only original effort of a game, CR2-0, which is badly designed what with the crummy side-scroller engine (NOT the MZX Encyclopedia one) and the overusage of Cyber Peacock's stage music in the final levels.

The reason I was gone for so long is that WIRELESS CAN REALLY SUCK. The previously used un-secured wireless connections disappeared at Midwest Manor and I was without a connection to sites like THIS for quite a while. But then I moved to a house in Del City in Feburary and soon got a wireless connection of my own to use whenever.

Yeah...stuff happens sometimes huh?
