This would be set at both the world and board level, where the world level value is used as the default value for any new boards created, with the board level value determining the actual smzx mode. The value would default to 0, and F11 functionality could be changed so that it toggles between standard and whatever smzx_mode (if any) is set for that board. Also, when returning from testing or the editor, or swapping boards, mzx would be forced into the smzx_mode set for that board.
<Nadir> mzxers don't make GAMES, usually
<phthalocyanine> they make experiences.
<Nadir> demos, more like
<Nadir> a glimpse into what could have been if mzx wasn't such a bore to work with
<Nadir> actually, i'm being unfair
<Nadir> i would have made mzx games if it was capable of running on more than 20 computers worldwide in 1998
<Nadir> >:D

<%Alice> functor
<%nooodl> i hear C++ has a thing called functors and they're completely different from Haskell functors...
<rorirover> the result is the most horrid thing in C++, it's basically black magic and it transforms any code you're writing into some eldritch monstrosity

Does anyone actually use SMZX in the editor? Mode 3 screws up the interface colors so bad there's almost no point

There's a bug open to fix the interface colour issue. The problem is that we'd have to deprecate 8bit colour support or have some modality depending on the user's bit-depth, so I haven't gotten to it yet.

I don't personally think this feature is very useful. If the editor was fixed to make SMZX char editing more bearable, you could switch into it temporarily and then back out when you're doing other things to the world, like writing robotic. Even with the colours fixed, the interface is still distorted in SMZX mode.

A real fix is to only apply the SMZX-ness to the board window, char editor, char selector etc. That's a big job, maybe worthy of another feature request, but definitely not top of my list.

Updating status to: Rejected

Don't see the point of the original request, OP never gave sufficient reasoning, and what ajs and I mentioned is a completely different issue. Zap zap
