<@Tixus> Anyway, I set the year to 1988 for some reason.
<@Tixus> And set the microwave to run for a minute and 28 seconds.
<@Tixus> But it failed to send me back in time, and I was disappointed.
<Insidious> Tixus accidentally microwaved the 80s
<Insidious> that is my takeaway from this

This is now the DoZ Rules Bugfix thread

Quote

Scoresheets. There are two different scoresheets that your game may be judged under: theme-heavy and theme-light. The exact differences between these scoresheets are detailed below, but as the names suggest, the 'Theme' scoring category is more highly weighted in the former. However, the theme-light scoresheet also requires you to get an average score of greater than 5. If your game does not make this threshold, it will be summarily disqualified.

Quote

That said, you'll be sorry if you completely neglect this, since as outlined in the rules, if you receive an average of 5 or less, you will automatically be disqualified.

edit: change it to, respectively:

Quote

5|6 or greater

Quote

average of less than 5|6, you will be...

This should be rewritten to put focus on the MINIMUM PASSING score. Either write it as 6 (no change to the DQ rules) or 5 (how I and seemingly a ton of other people have been misinterpreting it for years, including on my scoresheet this time around. Doh!). I don't mind relaxing the DQ bar by one point to make a nice even 1/4 the minimum passing score.

Any other DoZ bugfixes this time around? I was musing about maybe attempting to rebalance the scoresheets to prevent abuse with themes like DRAGONS but I didn't have much important to say. The gist of it was that instead of having a theme-heavy scoresheet and theme-lite scoresheet, there should be a gameplay-heavy and a story-heavy scoresheet (or even a "tech-heavy" scoresheet if we really want to go that direction), and the effects of theme should be balanced between both sheets, but there wasn't much agreement over how it should be done (my suggestion was a theme discretion vote, Risu's was a 50/400 theme category with a more lenient theme-DQ than theme-lite has I think). I don't know if it's a real solution or not.

Schone Zeiten was like wow :(

Though it was kind of a bummer that there's really only one way to win the final battle: 2x Quantum Generators, 2x Energized Plates, and 2x Gamma-Ray Bursts. Anything less and I get blown up.

Risu beat it with 2 energized plates, heavy auto cannon, pulse laser, quantum generator and a standard fuel tank, so there's a couple of ways

That battle was never balanced at all; I'm just glad it was beatable =P

<Malwyn> Yes, yes. Don't worry I'd rather masturbate with broken glass than ask you for help again. :(

Yeah, trading down to the standard tank makes it winnable.

Oddly enough, that was the loadout I tried before I went with the double gamma rays.

I guess I was doing it wrong by going after the small ships before the big ones.

I'm pretty sure I traded down to the standard tank to beat it too. That turned out pretty well! Because it's like. I'm going in. and I know I won't be able to make it back out. so I don't need a bunch of fuel slowing me down. because i'm a badass
