Message from the Management

When you finish a new game, demo, engine, or utility, the first thing to do is submit it to the archive for approval. (Log in first, then Upload a New Game from the sidebar.) Then feel free to post about it in this forum; in fact, please continue to do this. This is so people will actually know about your game and play it. As nice as it is to have archive uploads automated, it's not going to help much if no one knows you have a new game to play.

When uploading your games to the archive, please zip up your game using the .ZIP format, even if it is just a .MZX file. As for less popular formats (such as RAR and 7Z), games uploaded in these formats will be rejected. This is because as wonderful as those compression algorithms might be, ZIP is a near universal compression standard, and the only one that will work with the in-game archive browser planned for MZX.

You can also attach your game to a new thread in this forum. In this case, you can use whatever compression format you find suitable. NOTE: Games posted this way won't be put into the archive unless submitted to the archive proper, or unless the author states he/she wants the game in.

Lastly, we suggest you post a suitable screenshot of your submission (in PNG format) along with the game.

Hey guys, I made a game because I love you all so much.

Actually, I've been staying at my parents house, and I have time on my hands to make shit.

I had fun with this one, and I hope that comes through.

Seeing Lancer and Lachesis' competition games inspired me to make this. I tried to improve my graphics with this one and make it more visually appealing than previous games.

No surprise: It's horror.

Enjoy:

  • werewolves
  • killer robots
  • bloodthirsty snakes
  • psychos
  • evil scientists
  • lots of blood
  • giant spiders
  • and much muchmc huc mmoreeeeaasdad

You can use Audacity to convert them to Ogg Vorbis files, which should be much smaller and not audibly much different at higher quality settings. Though if those WAVs are non-original copyrighted music you might want to consider checking out the public domain section of the Mod Archive. :)

edit: Here's a link for Audacity, I forgot to include one...
edit 2: In case it's not clear, you can also convert the sound effects to Ogg, which makes those a lot smaller too (though you'd have to go fix any references to them).

Thank you! I've found a way to upload the file through a third party site. I think it's legit. I think it's safe. Anyway, maybe I'll convert the files at some point. But for now, I'm going to bed. Download the game, guys! It's fun!

Edit: Oh, I have Audacity. I didn't know it converted files to ogg vorbis. That's great. Let me know what you think about the game Lachesis!

Edit2: Wait fgggghghhh I didn't include all the files. Hold on... [ok. fixed]

Edit3: Corrected some other mistakes in the game.

I will definitely try it out soon.

More details on converting them in Audacity: it might be worth updating to a newer version of Audacity, since Audacity makes conversion to OGG a lot easier now. Pretty much, you can just load the WAV, go to File > Export > Export as OGG, select a quality level in the format options (6 or 7 is usually a good compromise), and save it. For example, Slow.wav (34MB) drops to 5MB when converted to a -q7 OGG, which would be enough to get past the current upload cap (100MB). I recommend you at least convert all of the other big files though...

Also, noticed "Free Music Archive" in the tags while writing that up... looks neat, sorry for doubting you. It's just the last couple of times this happened before the music in question ended up being definitely NOT free music... :shades:

Thanks for the tips! I appreciate the details here. I will try to try to try...to try... to convert the files :p LOL

Yeah, got all the music free. There are some cool sites out there, though I wish I knew of a totally free, self-supporting wav/ogg site (besides, like, chiptunes). Alas, you go with what you have.

I’ve corrected some stupid bugs in the game. Should be ready for optimal play. Though of course, I say, and then there will inevitably be something that effs up. When you rush, you make mistakes...

Loved your game btw Lachesis. The one where the town is attacked with the cool tree and house graphics. One thing, though: I couldn’t get through the first level. Above the first few enemies at the first or second “turn”, the grass blocked me and it stopped my gameplay. Any idea about that? Did I miss something?

Finished it! Very good game, I like the narrative and the cosy ending. A bit hand holding at time, action scenes superb, excellent setting. I had some troubles finding the path to the window at first, but then I got it. Also "Save!", but I forgot you had to push F3 to save.

Good production!

I can't figure out how to get out of the gated yard at the very beginning of the game. I'm guessing that the key to the shack is hidden somewhere, but I wasn't able to find it.

Hey kclancy! so good to hear from you. So, in order to get into the shack, you need a key that's inside the house. Look for the irregular bricks next to the window far left, then climb up by going one space to the left of the first irregular brick. Hit the window with the bone and walk inside. The key is somewhere in there. Not the first one you find, but the second (you may have to search a dead body!)
