Copied from the vault since Giel probably doesn't ever look at the reviews there
First, I'd like to get two things out of the way.
1) Stealing content from other games is bad. It might not get you fined or arrested if you steal from other Megazeux games, but it makes the Megazeux community's opinion of you go down, a lot. You stole profusely from this game:
http://vault.digital...how.php?id=1016 and according to Terryn, from another game in Gemini's game pack.
2) This game is impossible to play unless you're in the editor. You forgot to set the starting board, Giel (for reference of anybody else, you want to start at Deep Dungeon 1). The player will also need to use F8 and F11 at various points in the game, to escape from walls, get past Roton, and to lower the Emperor's health.
Now, for the actual review. This game's better than Giel's previous games, but that's probably mostly due to him stealing from Bramble's game. Overall, though, this is not a very good game. Some of the artwork is decent (thanks to Bramble), and the dialogue wasn't always tedious, and save for a few glitches, the whole thing's beatable! Now, instead of being a jerk and complaining a rant, here's a kind list of everything I didn't like.
1. Didn't set the starting board.
2. Deep Dungeon graphics :(
3. In Deep Dungeon 2, if you kill the yellow enemy that drops the white keyboard while he's next to a wall, there's a high probability that he won't drop a keycard and you'll get stuck.
4. The areas where there is forced rightward movement. You'd be better off just having the level autoscroll, but at a slow enough pace that the player can easily keep up with the level.
5. Why were the people that were chasing me moving at a horribly slow pace on one screen but faster on another screen?
6. In Log Storage2, it's impossible to get to the left edge of the board by using the green jumping platforms. You have to land on the spikes, which causes a glitch that makes the player fall upward and jump from the ceiling, and then shoot upward while jumping downward to get low enough that you can touch the board edge and go on to the next room.
7. The Gem sound effect sounds completely out of place and gets annoying in large patches of gems
8. In Dax5, the disappearing platforms changed way too fast, and it's impossible to get to the far left platform. You have to jump on top of the building and walk across the roof.
9. Jumping on platforms that are 1 width and make you jump upward! This is NOT good level design!
10. The Flight board has the player in the middle of the screen -- when you have oncoming projectiles, usually you want to have the player on the side of the screen OPPOSITE from the direction they're coming, so the player can prepare themselves better.
11. You start the board Speeder2 in the middle of a wall!!! What the hell, please beta test your games more thoroughly or get somebody else to do so for you before releasing so you can fix silly bugs like this (and not setting the first board).
12. The city doesn't look like a city, it looks like a bunch of empty text boxes on a grey background.
13. There are guys in the bar who talk but I can't read their text very easily because it's dark blue on black. Please beta test your entire game :(
14. I stood there shooting Roton for minutes. I checked the F11 menu. HIS HP WAS AT NEGATIVE 200
15. The Emperor has 1000 hitpoints and it's not particularly easy to damage him. Why did you think this was a good idea
Things I liked:
1. Didn't set the starting board. This put me in the editor by default, so when you royally screwed me by trapping me in a wall and by not making Roton or the Emperor killable, I was ready to deal with them by cheating.
I think you need to practice making original things more. Stop using other peoples' work without their permission. CR2-0 was an awful game, but at least it was mostly original. I think you need to play other peoples' games and study what makes them good before making another game, Giel, and most importantly, try playing your own games through. Seriously, take CR2-0, and play through it yourself. Did you have fun playing it? Why wasn't it fun? This is how most game developers get better at developing games. You will not get better at making games by plagiarizing.
edit: this was written after playing the archive version of the game, but I posted it here to bring the fix to everybody's attention. It doesn't make you less of a plagiarizer
