I think your indignation over your violated expectations are just as senseless as Logi's tech demos in MZX. Sure, you have ideas in your head about what MZX should and should not be, but no one really cares. Logi can have different ideas and it's his right to make whatever he wants with it. Your criticism does not lead to the production of more good MZX games, which is what you seem to want. Why not all just spend this energy on your own respective game projects instead?

Just a suggestion. :p

Yeah, if LogiCow is happy making these pretty little things then leave him be. I wish some of you lot would get off his back about him making games seeing as most of us aren't. Nice work Logi, the patterns look very nice indeed.

Im not saying that MZX should be this or that, and Im not really wasting energy or something by posting on these forums. And on the thought of "Noone really cares" Thats not exactly true. Quite a few people care quite a lot about MZX, and projects in MZX, otherwise there wouldnt be nearly so many posts to this one topic. Not to mention that you seem to care a great deal about what I in particular have to say, otherwise I doubt you would have posted. I simply think what Logicow is doing is useless, and I stated such. My expectations havent been "violated" since I had no expectations to begin with. And in terms of my critisism, Im not hoping to encourage the development of good games or fight some fight or another. Im merely critisising work I see as useless. There's no end goal there, its just that I find something useless I say that I think its useless. That might make me something of an ass, or maybe not. If I see a bad movie, Im not going to say "Wow, they really had a good time making that, they should keep that up!" Im going to say "That really sucked." And ontop of that, if I said that this was wonderful, and truely amazing, and I liked it, Id be lieing on three fronts. The argument could be made that I should just shut up, but thats not the type of person I am I guess. I dont think thats the type of person any of us are or again we wouldnt post as much as we do. In the end, all Ive done is said what I think of Logicow's works, and I am sorry if that has offended anyone. Which I guess it probably has.

I somewhat agree with the uselessness and inaplicability of the effect.

I mean it might be usefull in a cut scene or something, but then it wouldn't need to be created in real time like it is here, and would probably look better and run faster... scratch that, it would DEFINETELY be faster and look better.

However uselessness aside, it's still kinda niffty, and if logicow enjoys doing it I can't find a real reason to berate him or impede on his choice of creative expression.

He can crank out all these he wants but the truth is that yeah it is getting kinda old, and he only raises the bar higher for himself each time, I mean he posted one engine that was one of his less than steller achievements and everyone beat down on him practically.

For his own good, I hope that he find himself content making simpler applicable engines, or even a game. But until then, keep doing what you're doing logicow.

It's not the fact that we'd rather him doing nothing instead of these demos, but while he's doing demos he's not working on dinosaur. Catch my drift?

it didn't make a really pretty bitmap for me. it made a boring one with a little bit at the top and just solid red at the bottom. and it did it twice. LOGI YOU HAVE CRUSHED MY EXPECTATIONS!
anyway, www.box43.net/~pyro1588/bitmap.bmp
am i supposed to have something on the board?

also, it really doesn't matter if logi makes graphical demos. it's up to him, not anyone else, what he wants to make. and seriously, i like pixel-perfect movement in an mzx game. as far as how this stuff could be used in a real game, some of it can. i'd much rather see a cans game that has a raycaster maze instead of a standard mzx 3d maze. the windowpane effect (if it could be sped up) could be used in a cool cutscene where something bright flies by the window. the bubble thing could be used as a minigame.
bottom line: there are uses for these, but logi just hasn't exploited them yet.

XD
thats awesome. "retardedly big" is the coolest phrase I've heard today. and I like the demos. I agree with koji that he is raising the bar for himself, but is that a bad thing? thats just motivation to make something even better that very well may be useful for something at some point. its just as useless to say what he makes are useless because there have already been examples of how these things could be used, its just that they haven't. hell, if I was working on this rather than doing random other things, I'd probably just do engines and code demonstrations because I like to do little things that are neat and could be used, just not by me. its easier and more fun for me to do code bits that someone else can forge into something playable than it is for me to try to peice something together myself. I like to be the one to introduce something new that can be copied in spirit and used for all sorts of interesting things. sort of like how the theory of p2p software was taken from its less functional and less complete originator: napster. I would be much more proud of that than if I were to make a mildly sucessful game with some interesting points to it.

Raising the bar isn't a bad thing no, provided that you can actually get above it...

I mean yeah you might be able to get above it but it'll be insanely slow.

The points on your triangles are jaggy when rotating and for that I judge you as a human being.

Also if you zoom in too far it breaks. =P

I thought it looked really cool at first, then I noticed how ugly it actually was because some stuff just didn't resize properly.
