As most of you have realized by now, DMZX is undergoing some massive changes between now and summer, both from a code and style perspective. We're trying to get away from the monochromatic color scheme that we've all become comfortable with.

Also, we're looking to move to a new name! So far we're thinking of using "dMZX" and get away from "DigitalMZX". Keep this in mind during the transition...

With that, I'd like to open a logo contest for the remainder of March to see who can come up with the best logo for the new dMZX. We'll be following the color scheme from http://colorschemede.../#3B629hWs0g0g0 (used at http://vault.digitalmzx.com) for the rest of the site, so you're welcome to use those colors as a template.

Please use vector-based software for this if possible -- I'll be sponsoring a prize based on the best logo if funds allow, and that will require a very high-res image.

I'll be taking entries at mzxgiant@gmail.com from now until 3/19, at which point I'll put them all up for community voting for a few days. Any ties will be broken by the administration staff.

Good luck to everyone!

dMZX logo, hrm? Guess i can put Flash 8 to work.

Edit: Hey wait... do we really have to stick to those 4 colors? Not even the good ol' ASCII smiley cyan?

the mzx is supposed to be capitalized

edit: noticeably, you know. i'm not convinced it's capitalized. maybe it's the way the mzx is under the d, it's like the other way around completely. i know it wasn't specified in the criteria but i'm assuming a logo entry that reflected our new brand name, dMZX, with proper capitalization, would win a little harder.

because the font is ambiguous enough to appear capitalized and yet provide a lowercase-looking d,

'DMZX' and 'dmzx' both look bland, 'dMZX' looks lopsided, i think the font itself provides a nice middle ground

besides, capitalizing it by editing the vectors would just look silly because the d would be way too tall and etc.

i dunno, if you think that'll Win Harder then you can do it

also, i'm updating thing

Well, my current impression is that CJA's submission is way more appealing than burstroc's. Still waiting for other people to try out, though.

well, i sure don't care about winning, i don't want a prize or any glory, i think this contest is dumb, i posted for suggestions, all i got was cja's clipboard skills and his microsofty logo with a bunch of green in it, not part of the color scheme, not capitalized in the manner of the new name that was somehow decided upon, but is somehow more appealing, even though i said mine isn't done, especially colorwise!

i give up! forget your update!

it's cool, i'm thinking that with the new site style the signature-free look is a pretty good one.

CJA, the dmzx in lowercase is good. All caps presents a less accessible, less readable design. Right now I'm sensing that the "d" is doing a sort of maternal reach around mzx. Is this the impression you want it to have? If so, good. But if not, think about that.

Do I want to know what a 'maternal reach around' is?

I'll probably try to brew something up, but, ehhh. It'll take me until the weekend, probably.

Guys, make no mistakes about it. I was talking about sex. With your mom. But I hope CJA gets my point--that it does give a sort of "hugging mzx" impression.

Here's my first submission

The colors are easily fixable if people like the design (I did them by eye, and I just realized that the monitor I used while making this horribly desaturates the colors it displays.). I'll probably make a different one tomorrow, if I feel that I have another idea I like.

edit: slightly fixed colors

Somebody requested that the "d" be more clearly a "d", and this was the best thing I could think of without entirely redoing at least a good half of the image. Opinions? If everybody likes this one more than the other version, I could tidy it up a little.

this one looks jumbled. i would suggest (though i wouldn't go to the trouble of doing it myself to win harder) taking your old logo and adding a point before the beginning of the wave, and shift-dragging it up until it looks like a d, then adjusting your wave so it fits better.
