Time for a random coup and reorganization of the power structure, so that I can interchange the people who are interested in and capable of managing some things this community needs, for people who are supposed to be in charge but are never here. Here are the changes:
  • Insidious: Elite -> Admin - A stunning reversal for a community member who was once banned, and still attracts the scornful gaze of many. This may not be a popular decision for some, but I think it's necessary, because he's one of the very few people who has 1) expressed active interest in improving the site and community connectivity, and 2) has the skill and experience to be trusted to do so.
  • Es: Admin -> Elite - This is what happens when you don't log into the site for six months. Last seen: March 18th, 2009. Maybe I should put out a milk carton ad.
  • RoSS: Moderator -> Member - Same deal. I need people here who are actually going to put in an appearance once in awhile. And I know how ironic that sounds coming from me, but just because I'm not posting doesn't mean I'm not doing anything for the site. I THINK I finally put a decent plug in that wiki spam problem.
  • astral: Elite -> Developer - Astral has been bitching at us to get our site in order and make it more attractive to newbies and guests. Here's his chance to show us what he's got. As a long-time member and Elite, I trust him to get the job done well.
  • MZXGiant: Developer -> Admin - This is a cosmetic title change more than anything, since what he's actually doing for us is unlikely to change much. He'll be working with astral on the site, while I peek in and write a snippet of code every now and then.

Possibly more changes to come, but I'm hoping this will start getting people who actually want to help into positions where they can.

"As always, most important business is conducted on the golf course or at the pub."

i'm shocked and surprised by some of these changes! okay, really i'm actually surprised about insid and not about the rest. it's a shame to see es disappear. conversely, it's nice to see mzxgiant finally have the same icon as the rest of the admins. congrats new admins, sorry to see old ones go.
<Tox> bah. I may as well give in and shop australia. D:

Besides astral and maybe insidious, I'm not really surprised with any of this. Congrats, astral, insidious, and MZXGiant.

Honestly I'm as surprised as you are, buddy. I was thinking ban maybe for running people off, but Developer is probably a far more harsh punishment.

Alright!

Well, I'd give a big speech but I'm honestly no good at those.

What I will say is this. Thanks for all your confidence in me, and I will try to show that I deserve that confidence. This community has been important to me for 12 years of my life, and I'm happy to finally be able to truly give back to it. We are in dire need of a shakeup, some new blood, some new games, and some general reinvigoration to this community. At the same time, I plan on cracking down on the kind of abusive behaviour that can make this site seem so hostile at times. I also hope to be able to help Astral with his redesign of the front page to be more new-user-friendly, in whatever way I can.

Now, hopefully the admins will be more forthcoming in making my sudden elevation to power easier in the future. I wasn't told of this until Exophase told me just now, and I still don't know how to access the admin CP (Why can't it be a nice button near My Controls like the old IPB?), but hey.

Woah, I wasn't expecting so many changes on my life, getting banned and trying to change my behavior, my main 500 GB hard-drive on my main compy crashing and probably losing everything on it (hey, why does it feel like a Dejá Vu? Oh, right, GEMINI...) and now this. Great job to the ones who got promoted. To the ones who got demoted: better luck next time...

This also means I have to tread around more carefully now that there are more admins here.

Regards,
~Why-Fi

Why-Fi, if you're seriously trying to compare yourself to Gemini, you might try not being a sexist & racist gay-bashing bigot

Cool, administration changes rock.
<Nadir> mzxers don't make GAMES, usually
<phthalocyanine> they make experiences.
<Nadir> demos, more like
<Nadir> a glimpse into what could have been if mzx wasn't such a bore to work with
<Nadir> actually, i'm being unfair
<Nadir> i would have made mzx games if it was capable of running on more than 20 computers worldwide in 1998
<Nadir> >:D

<%Alice> functor
<%nooodl> i hear C++ has a thing called functors and they're completely different from Haskell functors...
<rorirover> the result is the most horrid thing in C++, it's basically black magic and it transforms any code you're writing into some eldritch monstrosity
