Not only did LogiCow break the accepted rules of BKZXs but he failed to include blank.chr for the n thousandth time. :\ All to produce a game that's little more than yet another graphical demo. And Koji, I don't think CJA's game is typical for a BKZX. Annoying? Yes. Typical? A step above, really. You don't have to do fancy lines and pixels to make something with a touch of innovation.

Well it was the best pixel based game in mzx ever.

I think that in itself is worth some credit, but after relooking over some other BKZ entries and at cja's

I have to agree that yes cja's entry it good for a bkz entry, but I still think logicow deserves major props for his entry.

Exo: also the blank charset can be generated using a board within the mzx file...

Logicow cheated just to beat cja? That's really very cold.

It wasn't even close to the best pixel based game in MZX, and even if it were it wouldn't mean much of anything, especially since a lot of MZXers can do something like this. It takes skill but not a lot of time or work, the real things that are needed to make a game.

Using the MZX world to generate the file is pretty much as bad when it's not made obvious and doesn't do it automatically when it COULD. Who is going to notice that? They'll just start playing the game and notice it's all screwed up looking. You'd think LogiCow would have learned his lesson about this by now.

I did mention right after the bkzx that I used "#liner". I didn't keep it secret.
And sorry if I failed to include blank.chr or give instructions about it.

And we could debate if premade stuff is acceptable in BKZXes but in another thread.

Edit: Here I'll make one.

Maybe, but you didn't ask permission to before.

Although if you did ask permission the answer would have been 'NO' anyway. You don't need to do pixel perfect shit, but if you do, you shouldn't gain advantages by using premade stuff.

Not that it would be hard to do the entire thing within the time limit. There's really not much there.

Logi did break some rules, but hey, "pixel perfect shit" takes a lot of time. He DID cheat, but I don't think he cheated for the purpose of beating me. Of course he did do this so he would win, which actually involves beating me...

:p

Moral: Don't cheat on BKZXes. If you want to make a better entry but need to use external material, just make a real (non-BKZX) game.

Heh Well... I think maybe if it were longer you'd have to rename it...

Rushed MZX! complete a game in 3 hours!

Koji heh, I always try "let's do a 2 hour bkzx this time!" but then people that have the same mindset as Tixus disagree strongly. i.e: Everybody. :p

Also heh my game was supposed to have music but there was a continuous loop with 'mod "sumthin"' in it so the sound was muted...that's what happens when you make a MZX game in a sixty minute timeframe.

Also, Exophase, what was (most) annoying about it?

Why is all this controversy here? BKZX's worked fine until this. No one's ever had a problem starting and finishing a game in one hour.

IMO, if Logicow cheated, he shouldn't have won. He should have been DQ'd.

That's just my opinion.

Also this:

Yeh the best bkzxes were those 20 minutes ones.

The best one ever was the 5 minute tie breaker between me and Es where the topic was Mayonnaise, I will never forget that :_)

Good point.

I donno if there are rules against premade code in these compotitions and if there isn't I think it would be a nessisary precaution, a rule should be added.

"NO PREMADE CODE OF ANY KIND this means in the mzx file, in robotic code files in text documents encoded in runic or anything! NONE! NO CODE! NADA!"

And it should be worded that way too! :p

DoZ rules quite clearly say that no exterior code is allowed and everyone knows that.

I doubt Logi did in any DoZ. He has a knack of spending 1/3 of the time for an engine and any remaining time building a game around it, even since BLOODTHIRSTY PLANTS. In one case that extra time ended up being only about 45 minutes. =P

I've seen every DoZ game that Logi's done (provided he didn't do anything before the tomato one) and none of them looked to be unachievable in the time limit of a DoZ. You can often see quite clearly the drawbacks of his rushed approach.

I still think his Metroid parody game was the best of the lot though.

Lol, I hate this lab... there's a firewall that connects to the internet and translates anything going though to spanish!

:p

Horrible

Anyway, of what I understood

I don't think we should take this single event and use it as future tense precident of logicow's supposed actions of previous competitions... I don't think it would be right since we have no proof.

Bien! y tu?

Yeah so to bring up that he may have done it then given that he just did, is a fallacy, and we shouldn't use it to create a false precident from which we can be more angry at him for what he has currently done..

And besides, it's obvious to me that he didn't think what he was doing was breaking rules at the time, otherwise he probably wouldn't have owned up to it as quickly as he did...

I only said that as a word of caution, since everything is past, its not right to accuse people of what they might have done... its more or less putting a watchful eye on any cheaters in the future, and to make sure the hosts of these events at least post the rules somewhere clearly enough that everyone can read.... Actually, I think the best rule would be to know the rules, so that if a future incident did occur, it be your own fault for having not read the rules....
