I literally came to these forums because I was going to ask if anyone was working on/considering whatever would be necessary to run MZX in a browser. And saw that it already does.

Which version brought this about? I did some searching around the forums and expected a little more buzz about it than the zero I found. How old is this feature? This significantly lowers the barrier to entry for new players.

The HTML5 port was added last July but wasn't fully working until last September. It got some attention on Discord and Twitter but you're right, things were fairly quiet here (aside from it being mentioned here). I think that's about normal for these forums now unfortunately :(

A semi-recent change in Firefox makes the Emscripten version of MZX run slow in it for some reason, though. For now, it's best to run the web player in a Chromium-based browser.

When I do something I'm not completely ashamed to put my name on I fully intend to use the web player outside of the digitalmzx site. I'm not especially enthusiastic about webplayers in general as they tend to require 10x the horsepower under the computer's hood than running natively, but as noted, for people who aren't interested in mzx proper, it's still a nice way to share projects.

Out of interest is it possible to have MZX editor work in web viewer?

Downloading unauthorised apps is not allowed at work, however I tend to have enough free time to work on MZX so this would be useful feature at least for me!

The HTML5 MZX port can be built with editor functionality but the main issue is any created/modified files are kept in localStorage or IndexedDB (they aren't sent back to the server) and there isn't really a convenient way to retrieve them right now.

If you have an Android phone/tablet you're allowed to use at work and a bluetooth keyboard* you could try the Android port. It has known graphics and input bugs on some devices though.

*Currently mandatory, MZX doesn't support using the Android system keyboard yet :(

Ah shame, unfortunately I can't have any PEDs in work at all and the work systems are locked down, potentially I could figure something out with Remote Desktop but that might be locked as well.
